I wear a mantilla to church (although seldom draped beautifully as I tend to knot it to keep baby from yanking it away) and we've started to wonder about our little girl. Right now I do allow her to wear a bonnet if it is chilly in church, but she often pulls it off and I don't mind that, as long as she doesn't start squealing and throwing it!
I wondered, for ladies who veil, when do your start to encourage or require your daughters to cover their heads at church? I was thinking FHC, but then I remembered how I don't allow DS to wear a hat or hood in church and he hasn't made his FHC yet.

Our 5 dd wears a veil. I tie it in the back to keep it from coming off. I just bought a beautiful bonnet for Maria. Most moms at our parish wear mantillas, so you see a lot of little girls with them on, tied in the back.

A boy would never normally cover his head, though, right? I wouldn't allow head covering for any boys in church except for very small babies.

A boy/man never covers his head in church. In fact, he should always remove his hat (or tip) it when passing a church as a sign of respect to Our Lord. The same is true when a boy/man enters a building of any sort; he should remove his hat. I started having my girls wear veils in church at age five. Karen

Could you bobby pin a chapel veil (the smaller circular ones?) It sets up the habit, but its no real biggie if they pull on it. I straightened, but I didn't start WWIII over it. It's small enough that they don't notice it as much. Then let your dd pick out her own larger veil when she's 5 or 6.

I always have a bonnet on my 18-month-old daughter. (It is important to my husband that she wears a head covering if possible, even at her age.) Until she was around 12 months or so, she used to try to pull her hats off constantly; we would straighten it once or twice, and then, if she continued, just take it off and put it away for the rest of the Mass. (We didn't want her to get the idea that her hat was a toy.) She eventually got used to it, and for the last while, she has been very happy to leave it on, no problems.
We tried different kinds of hats on her, and the bonnet-style was what worked best--she didn't like having things against her forehead, obstructing her vision, I think.

My daughter wears a chapel veil and I bobby pin it on. I actually sewed her one in a very light pink color so she would be a little more motivated to keep it on.
I have a link for a company that does pretty veils. I'm going to look for it an add it on my post.

I order from Halo Works too! They have beautiful veils, and we love the soft spanish lace.

We've sewn matching thin ribbon on the edges of veils or small mantillas, then tied the ribbon behind the child's hair at the base of her neck. This works very well. We also called them "Whisper Veils" to encourage the idea that when they wear the veil it's time to whisper! Practicing this concept at home during prayertime or when studying about the Mass is helpful.

Even though I don't wear a veil (yet, I keep thinking on this and going back and forth) my DD6 likes to wear one on occasion. She has a pretty pink one that I made for her when she requested one and we secure it with a couple bobby-pins.

I haven't been spending much time on forums lately, but I just checked in and noticed this discussion!
My girls, ages 4 & 2, both wear veils, and love it! You can see a picture of one of my daughters here with her veil on. I love theirs since they tie under the chin. I ordered them from modesty veils. My girls have white ones, but I believe they sell a whole variety of colors. I hope this helps!
