Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love seeing how different families use Montessori/CGS in their homes. It inspires me to think of ways to do it out ours. Check out Jen's (MackFam) -- she has a great set-up!!

Thank you for linking her blog Maryan, it's wonderful!! I am buying the COGS materials from Our Father's House so we can get going, I so wish I'd had them for Lent and Easer, you were such an inspiration to me with all your activities and photos you shared!! I know my dc would thrive in an Atrium enviornment, so thank you again!!

The Catechesis For The Good Shepherd sounds wonderful!
Maryan, which title did you buy and where did you buy it from? Also, where did you buy the materials for it? I hope you don't mind me asking this, but your blog has encouraged me to try this.

Anya,

I'm not sure if you're referring to my blog or Jen's. But I will let you know that I am no expert on the CGS, but I bought Moira Farrell's for the home albums based on CGS at Our Father's House. And I bought my Mass kit there (and some extras this summer from MicheleQ who was selling them for her this summer only!!) The rest of my supplies are from AC Moore/Michael's.

I'm not sure if Jen, the gal whose blog that I posted links to, (who on 4Real is "Mackfam"), uses Moira's or if she is CGS trained. But her stuff... ahhhh... appears to be home-made by a very talented relative!!

If you search here under CGS, I'm sure tons of posts with ideas will pop up too!

I'm sure some experts will jump in too for advice.

Maryan, is it called the Home Catechesis Manual for ages 3-5? There is no mention of the good shepherd with it, but I guessing it is in there.

Anya,

JennGM who is CGS trained and has Moira's albums -- gave a good comparison here. This discussion goes on for two pages.

This might help?

Maryan and Anya,
I'm not CGS trained. I use Moira's books - this year I'm using her 3-6 album with my 7 and almost 11 year old. We put together our supplies using what we had on hand, but my awesome brother happens to be a woodworker and he fashioned a beautiful altar for the children to use. Before that, we just used a bench from one of the kid's tables - worked fine! I bought most of my Mass kit from Our Father's House, and the rest of the "stuff" needed for the presentations just here and there - mostly from Michael's and Hobby Lobby.

I felt reading The Good Shepherd and the Child was essential to my understanding of the philosophy and beauty behind this method of teaching. There have been a number of other books that were very helpful, I'm sure a quick search would yield great suggestions.

I love Moira's manuals - there is a great deal of prep work before the lesson - but that can be expected with anything worthwhile. The manuals are really the nitty gritty of the presentations, you'll be helped immensely in doing some background reading in addition to having a manual in front of you to plan and work from. Also, I don't *plan* to present once a week. Rather, I really follow the children. Sometimes, I present something new once every couple of weeks, sometimes only once a month. It just depends on how much time my kids want to spend on a particular parable, or Mass lesson. That takes a lot of the pressure off me in terms of preparation.

My children have responded in an amazing way to all of the teachings of the Good Shepherd, and are anxious to start with our presentations soon.

Hope this helps a little Anya. Good luck as you make your preparations. God Bless.
