Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was wondering how do I publish a document to my blog? I am trying this year to keep a learning notes type blog to share with my dh and I would like to be able to publish charts, schedules, documents into it so that he can have access to them easily. But, I can't figure how to do it.

Could somebody help me?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, the easiest way to publish documents is as .pdf files and Blogger doesn't have any way of uploading them right now. It is something people have been asking for but they have not delivered yet. You can use a third party site like Scribd, just make sure that when you upload the file you mark it as private so that it won't be published publicly on the main Scribd site. If you look at this post of mine, you can see an example of using Scribd.
Hope this helps!

Google Doc does not support PDF yet.   It does let you upload docs and spreadsheets, so that is what I did all last year.

More recently, I have been using fileave.com to upload documents... it has storage space up to 10 MB for free. I am not sure what I will do after I run out there.

You can try Box.net also. You get 1GB storage free.

Natalia

I ended up using Google Page Creator and love it. You can see here how I ended up sharing my word and excel documents. It is very easy to use, I love it, feel free to ask questions if you decide to go this way.

I guess my question is more basic Once I have the document created how do I publish it? I created a word document using Google documents, I change the settings the way they said to do on their help page and hit the publish button (or whatever button it said) and it didn't publish. I wanted it to be the way they look on your blog Willa.

Erin and Theresa I would look into Box.net and Google Page Creator. Thanks.

It should give you a link where it is published(might be the web address at the top of the document) and then you just link it in your blog like you would any other link...that should work!

Natalia, let me see if I can answer your question...

You already have a doc "published" on Google Docs, correct?

I just tried to publish one automatically on my blog as they say you can, and it didn't seem to work for me (maybe there is a time lag, though; I'll have to wait and see).

What I did all last year was to simply hit the general "publish" button (publish as web page) and then, use that link as a URL on my blog.   Does that make sense?

here is my sample

Now, to make an image of the file show up on your post is a different story.   To do that, I copied a page of my document visually -- in other words, going to Word (or Excel), I "select all" then "copy".

Then I past it on my Bit Map Editor -- the same place you go to edit your photos.

I save it as a gif (because that takes up less memory than a BMP or a JPG) and then -- I upload it to Blogger *as a picture*.   Then I have a visual for the blog post PLUS a link to the doc version.

I hope I am explaining this clearly enough -- it would be so much easier to just show you

There might be easier ways to do it -- I am following this thread with interest!

Let me know if this wasn't clear, or if this isn't what you are asking.

Willa,
That is exactly what happens to me. When I click on publish as a web page and then to a blog, it says that the document has been published but is nowhere on my blog!

Your way makes sense to me. Now I have to find out how to save a gif file. I don't have Bit Map Editor, I have Mac and always have used Iphoto to manage pictures.

Thanks

Maybe Iphoto would work the same way as the bit map editor? if you can copy a word page and paste it onto a blank space, and convert it to gif, then it might work still.

I think I did the same thing as Willa when I wanted to upload something to my blog that was a pdf file. Somewhere you can usually change it to the type of file your blog will accept, for example, a jpeg. I saved mine as a jpeg and then was able to publish it just like I would a picture from iphoto. (I have a Mac also).

I hope you've gotten it to work for you!

It's in the weirdest place... ...print options. Natalia, go to print, tell it to print. When my print window pops up, there is a little button there on the far left "pdf" - click it. Tell it to save as a pdf to iphoto. From there it will open iphoto and an exact image of your document appears there (now as a jpeg) and you can upload it just like you would a picture now. It will appear in a smaller form on your blog, but blog visitors will be able to click on the image and enlarge it to full size to see it if they choose.

Hoping it works for you!

Thanks, Jennifer. I always wondered what that PDF button was for. Now I know. That is exactly what I was looking for.
