...when you sit down to write out a loose schedule for your school year, and realize that to accomplish all the things you want to do, days are going to need more than 24 hours in them?????  
I thought I could pull it together myself this year. Now, with the "Start of School" fast approaching, I am getting a little nervous....

There never seems to be enough time and I always think x will only take a certain amount of time and it always takes longer. realize that maybe you don't have to do it all or all everyday. Sort of like eating; as long as you get all of the basics every week, you are probably fine but you don't need all of them everyday. Sorry for no great words but I know what you mean.

prioritize! start with your top 3 priorities and work away from that.
well that's what I do
that and say "NO!" a lot
*sigh* feels like I always have to say no, but obviously if I have to say no it's because I didn't say no at some point on something so I must be saying yes to something at some point but it still feels like I always need to say no so obviously I have no idea what *I* should do, much less you, so if you find the answer please let the rest of us know asap!

I did this recently with the Mom's worksheet on the MOTH schedule...sigh...more work than hours in the day. I cut whatever I had to, to make it work. If I don't, then I end up feeling stressed out and discouraged. I did some different things this time, like once a week bulk cooking (to decrease dinner prep time). So far, so good. We'll see if it continues to work! lol

I am having the same problem - always do. I want this year to be different. I am inspired by all my real learning reading. I always over schedule. This time I am figuring out our plan before buying things I do not need or will not have time to use.

Well, ditto Martha's comments. I always end up with more in a day than is sanely possible - then I do what Martha said and prioritize based on most important things for each child. I try to find ways to use their strengths to work on the weakest areas - so science fan will be doing reports on science and history and I'm light in everything else. I figure the science is flexible as he is learning without me in content but I'm using it to work on his weakest area - writing full sentences and paragraphs. Another child is a history fan - and all his lit is historically based except an occassional something else because I have got to get this guy to write and spell. The younger folks, our focus is more on the Montessori and I am presenting things now and planning on presentations and a truer Montessori for them - and I am putting some of the insets and other of this stuff into the older plans (not true Montessori right off since I am sort of assigning it but the idea is to get them to develop hand muscles so writing is easier and more efficient for them - after they have done it a few times, then it will be on a more choose from among what has been presented basis for the olders too and I have some flex time in the schedule for this). I haven't finished plans for the high schooler yet and when this is all done, I have to line it all up and see if it is realistic concerning my time (ie a lot of the plans are dc doing on their own and that is realistic - but the there are lessons that require me to present, assume that I have made some of the parable materials, etc. and well - that may or may not happen at this point or if I see that in a given week I've managed to expect myself to do 5 Montessori presentations, work with spelling and lit with someone, discuss religion with 3 dc and work with LD child for 1 hour - well, things will have to get sliced or changed.
As an aside, my administrator and I sat down for several hours at the beginning of the planning process and I was asking about things that I felt didn't go right last year - that made us feel burdened ... and the transitions in having a highschooler and finding out that they avoided math and science all year and how to make things work next year without destroying our home life. Well, she was very, very helpful and at the end of the process, I promised myself that I would gather all my various plans together, pick and choose what I thought was most important in terms of reading and paper topics and then write out a plan and at that point I would hide all these other plans away from myself so I wouldn't keep adding neat stuff in.

Happens to me ALL of the time...EVERY year, and we're beginning our 13th, and I'm drowing already! That's OK, I realize it now, and know that I have to really be more realistic. I think if I am more organized, and things are less chaotic, we can get to some of the things that I think are important. I'm going to work on it from THAT end instead this time.
I think that I'm finally beginning to get it....just in time for our oldest to graduate this year!
