Can someone point me in the right direction?

My question is about rain, or lack thereof. I live in Northern Virginia. We've had a very dry year, little rain.

There have been fronts that move through, but many times just completely miss our area...it's like the line of storms makes a big doughnut hole and misses a few counties...almost always ours. This happens quite frequently this year. There was torrential rain in other counties, DC and MD a few weeks ago and all we got were two sprinkles. Really. All the promises of rain, everyone else with floods and we got NOTHING!

So is there a reason for this? Something in our geographic location? What clues can I look for to find out more about this....where can I find info on something like this.

Oh, we did get some thunderstorms yesterday. You should have seen the jigs and dances going on inside! But to hear there was flash floods in the neighboring counties...makes me scratch my head. We had nice rain, but not that much.

I hope this makes sense.
