Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wonderful! And I'm so glad that someone else has been able to upload files.

Elizabeth, the girls were very glad to hear that we will be visiting the rainforest in the next few weeks. I plan to start this unit immediately after Easter. This will give me time to gather the materials.

This is going to be great!

These are wonderful, Elizabeth! I've wanted to study biomes, and this will be a very big help to me! Thanks so much!

I was looking at the wonderful rainforest plans. I think my ds (7) will really enjoy this.
I have couple of questions:

Is The Umbrella a FIAR vol. 4 book?

How long do you think that this plan will take to complete?

Thanks so much for sharing. I am still trying to learn how to incorporate unit studies into our school and how to do more hands on activities.

the Umbrella is by Jan Brett and it's not a FIAR book at all. It should take two-three weeks. We've been interrupted by illness, so I don't have a great guage.

Molly, are you working on this yet?

My last two books are "in transit" from the library, so we'll be starting on Monday. I'm so excited! The plans are wonderful and the packet you put together for me is so beautiful. I suspect we'll take two weeks to do it.

We'll probably be starting maybe Mondayish. I'd like to even start something tomorrow, we'll see.

For some reason, most of the books on Elizabeth's wonderful list aren't in our library. I did order some from other libraries, but also found some treasures in our library.

Two such treasures are

Welcome to the Green House by Jane Yolen (this is where I'll take some copywork from)........

"Welcome to the green house,
Welcome to the hot house,
Welcome to the land of the warm, wet days,
There are no doors in the green house,
yet strong lianas bar the way.
There are no windows in the green house,
yet ropey vines frame the views.
There are no wooden floors in the green house,
only fallen leaves,
and white rootlets,
and fungal threads.
There are no walls in the green house,
only the giant forest trees."

That's the first page. The illustrations are incredible! :o)

The second neat book we found is:

Antonio's Rain Forest adapted by Anna Lewington

This is a book that shows how Antonio and his family make rubber from the rubber tree. It is a junior non-fiction book, and has great photographs, etc.

I found some others (out of necessity), but these were the treasures we found that I loved. Can't wait to start!!! I have a couple on the list on the way, so we'll have to do this study for two weeks.

Thanks Elizabeth!

Tracy

We just received the new books we ordered and have been enjoying them. Thanks so much, Elizabeth. One of the most pleasant surprises was "A Walk in the Rainforest" written and illustrated by Kristin Joy Pratt. What a find--on the one hand, it's an alphabet book for the little ones, but on the other, it's an older kids book full of interesting facts. You can choose to read it either way. But that isn't the best part. The best part comes at the end of the book, when you discover that the author wrote and illustrated it at the age of fifteen--and the beautiful artwork was done in magic markers! My children loved learning this, and I think it was an inspiration to them.
