Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have begun a big picture book project for this summer--I hope . I want to start with the turn of the century and head through the "big" events of the 20th century.

Mark-9 has made a time line from 1900 to the present, with one sheet of paper-landscape-for each decade, so we will have a lot of room to add our book titles, along with the important events as they occur.

It is now time to start making lists--book lists--by far, my best resource so far is Cay's-Picture Perfect Childhood and Elizabeth's wonderful lists.

But if you have any favorite books, pertaining to any specific event in the 20th century, maybe we could start an ongoing list--this would be a great help to me, and maybe some others in the future.

I also wonder what are some of your favorite resources for finding historical picture books? (besides Cay and Elizabeth's great lists )

For us, this is going to me a more enjoyable fun look into this past century, not a real deep academic endeavor. I look forward to adding things to our time line like happenings in Grandparent's lives and things such as this also, so my younger bunch can begin to achieve some sense of "time".

Thanks for any help anyone can give!

Hey Joann, your request reminded me of this post by Diane from several months back. It's been in the back of my mind since then and I've planned to start an ongoing chronological history list for picture books here on 4 Real. This may just be the bump to get it started. What I like about the idea is that it could be fluid - added to as new books are found or published. And if it is a joint effort more variety and resources will come up.

Fantastic list!! We are studying 20th century next term so I'm adding these lists. Thank you.

Wowzers Jenn? I'm assuming that it was a compliment. Here in Australia being called a Wowser is not    I love learning the cultural differences. Oh wowser here means a real killjoy, it's a pretty big insult.

Oh, dear....I had no idea -- that *is* a unique cultural difference that I'm filing away! No, it's definitely not meant to insult over here...it means, wow! or that is amazing! And, I was amazed - a lot of work went into those lists, and I thought they were amazing resources!
