Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have a good link/resource for a calendar with events i.e. events in history; author's birthdays, etc.?

Maria-
I'm sure there is something out there with more for the authors, but Enchanted Learning has a nice monthly calendar with activities to do for the special day.

God Bless,

Maria, I use Literature for Lively Lessons which lists many special events for each week of the month (of the year!). For instance I learned this Tuesday, the 23rd, is National Handwriting Day (as it is the birthdate of John Hancock ).

That looks like a very helpful resource, Dawn. I'll have to check that out. I usually bee -bop all over the internet. There are so many calendar websites and so much information - really it's too much to proccess .

Some of the sites that I have used include:
-Scope system - which is one that is almost overwhelming with the amount of info for each day.
-Library of Congress site has American Memory - Day in History section. The neat thing about this site is that there are tons of historic resources linked to each entry so it's very informative.
-Today in History

-The History Channel has a today in history feature which includes a video clip of some historic event (more recent).

The month at a glance calendars are easier to use and seem to highlight some main events so you can plan in advance more easily.
-The Everything Preschool site has a format I like and highlights a couple things per day - seems to hit the biggies geared to kids.
-The History Place

And there are very specific calendars as well:
Literary birthdays
Artist birthdays
Musician birthdays

Dawn, I just checked the Everything Preschool site. Did you know that today is Squirrel Appreciation Day. Aren't you "NUTS" about squirrels?! Thanks for the site Mary.

I saw that, too, and thought of Dawn. Sorry I won't be celebrating today - no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to appreciate those little bird feeder thieves.

How could I have missed that!?!

Yes, I am *nuts* about squirrels, but see, ours are very well behaved. We'll be reading a few squirrel books today, then, and I may have to dig out the squirrel shaped cookie cutter ...
