Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I also like to buy them after Christmas. Now, can someone PLEASE remind me not to store them with the other decorations...in the attic!

Does anyone have craft ideas for melted globs of Advent candles?

The problem I have had when I get *cheap* candles is that they do not burn for very long. We keep the Advent Wreath lit during dinner every night in Advent. Some years I have been able to get Colonial Candles of Cape Cod candles in the appropriate colors, but I usually accomplish this by buying them no time near Advent. They change their color selection from time to time, so often there will be nothing violet (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) for a few years in a row.

Those Coyote Found candles are gorgeous! I'll need to look around my area to see whether anybody sells them.

Thanks for showing them to us!

Peace,
Nancy

OK Suz I'll remind you. I put mine in my dh's top dresser drawer. That way we BOTH knew where they were because we saw them all year long!

God bless,

Dawn's Idea can be found at the link
I have dial-up or I'd have found the exact link for you, but there is an article on the Advent Wreath on the page

I am going with Dawn's idea of the colored ribbon also. This way I can just use white tea lights, which are all I can find here. I will also use a white pillar in the center for Christmas day.

Dial-up? You must have so much patience! My connection has been slower the past month and my nerves are being tested!

Here's the direct link: Homemade Advent Wreath

I just finished making our Advent wreath a la Dawn. It turned out pretty I think. The hardest part was to get the ribbon around the votive candle holders. I think it looks great. Thanks Dawn.

Jenn ~ Thank you! I have never made nor even heard of ice candles! I just printed out the directions - gotta run now to get the candle glob out of the trashcan.

I'm in perpetual awe of you ladies!

Blessings ~

Oh Thank you Jenn... I dont have much patience... but it is either dial-up or cable out here, and we don't want cable. So instead we wait patiently for the phone company to get their act into gear!

Meanwhile, I try to keep up .
I'll post a picture of my wreath tomorrow

We got our Advent candles at the Catholic Shop too. But I am having great difficulty finding a white unscented pillar candle to make a Christ Candle - Michaels has lots of long white pillar candles - but they are all scented - we cannot do scented candles. Has anyone found a source for unscented white pillar candles?

Thanks

Marilyn

We got our candles a few years ago -- we ordered from a church supply company and they were tall, solid beeswax pillar candles. We cut them into 4-5" chunks and burn those -- they last even during the really long Advents we've had recently (this year is the shortest it can be, isn't it?)

Anyway, you might try looking for pillars.

Note to self and other interested parties: when you melt down bits of old white candles and paraffin to make a pink candle, don't put even the tiniest amount of a red crayon in the batch thinking it will make it pink. It all came out REALLY red!

I bought some votives holders and a 6-pack of lovely purple votives at Target but they didn't have any pink votives. I thought, "I can do that... how hard can it be! I have the supplies to do it already!"

So we'll try the pink again tomorrow... and the can tipped over and got back all on the inside of my good pot!

Ha ha, you're all my satellite sisters for sure! I've bought and lost candles, rolled them, bought them ahead of time...this year I managed to buy ahead and stash them in a box I actually unpacked. The big challenge is finding the Advent wreath in the attic boxes. I should have kept it out when we stuck all that stuff upstairs...now it's cold and I don't want to go up there. Should have done it yesterday when it was 70 degrees.

This, by the way, is the first year in many that I have not dragged my dear friend to every Michael's and Target in the Indianapolis area to find my Advent candles. Whew!

I realized last night around 6 PM that we needed new ones for this Advent. Thanks be to God, I was scheduled be at Adoration at 7, and that parish's gift shop is normally scheduled to be open till 7. I made it in time, and they had candles this year, as opposed to this time last year, when I was on a waiting list.

I did have Illuminated Ink's candles in the back of my mind if I couldn't get them last night. Though the price difference was notable: $3/set at the store vs. $10/set (not including "labor" at home) via I.I.

Still, beeswax would have been ideal.

The company I mentioned last year is Coyote Found. They have such a high quality, nice burning candle. We can find them at the local health food stores here as well - though color selection is often limited in the stores.

Sad news, everyone. Coyote Found went out of business at the end of August.

Oh, no that is sad - they were such a beautiful candle. I guess the search is now on for a replacement that offers such rich colors and natural materials.
