When I searching the Rainbow Resources catalog, I discovered this book. It looked interesting enough for me to see if I could get it through our library. Sure enough I did. It is totally awesome! It takes picture books and really has great activities to go with the book. Sort of FIAR, but a bit better from what I have seen.

You've found a gem, Beth. I have the first and second editions and used Peak with Books in my classroom years ago. I agree it's een better than FIAR, though FIAR's reading list can't be beat. Peak has more useable ideas for me.

I'm glad you started this thread, Beth. I bought Peak with Books 3 years ago and used it here and there but need to pull it out and start using it again! I really found the activities to be more friendly to my type of personality--very simple and not so labor intensive!

I just finished all my schoolbook ordering, and this was among them. I am so excited--I can't wait (oh yeah, I don't have to, I still have the library book!) 
I'm glad that others have had success with this.

Oooh...I'm interested! We are just starting FIAR. Is the age range about the same with Peak?

I had this in my "Trading Post Possibilities" stack. I yanked it out.  I took it to my 6 and 4 year old and started with the first book listed, _Ask Mr. Bear_ by Marjorie Flack. They loved it! Obviously it's a VERY user-friendly book requiring little prep! Gotta love that!

Wow! Never heard of this! What is the difference in the different editions? Are they all the same picture books? We do have FIAR which we did when the children were 4-8, but this also looks neat.
I wonder if there's anything out there similar but for older kids? I looked at Beyond FIAR and it didn't seem like it would fit us.

Just wanting to bump this thread up a couple of years
I'd love to know more opinions on this book, what sort of books do they recommend? what ideas do they contain?

Amazon have a couple of different editions, is there one edition you would recommend over another?

Erin,
I would get the latest edition (third) which includes color photos of work done using the book. Some of the titles that are used are Ask Mr. Bear, The Grouchy Ladybug, The Napping House, Whistle for Willie, and On Market Street. It's a fantastic resource which shows you how to get the most out of books (poetry, art, critical thinking, music, drama, etc.). It also has a list of books on the same theme used to extend the story time. I am currently using it with my four and seven year olds. It's a lot of fun. Karen

I said i'd get this but i forgot. Thanks for reminding me. We LOVE FIAR and we use HSS as well so i think this is something that we will use a lot as well! Thanks!!
eta: do you think this is something i can find in barnes and nobles or books a million?
