Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just blogged a bit about St. Dominic. In reading about this saint, I found out he is the patron saint of scientists and astromoners (and astronomy). Star gazing anyone?

I was thinking just that...in fact, I wrote it and deleted it!

I don't know if this is true across the board, but a nearby Dominican convent also has professions on this day. I have always wanted to attend their Mass and witness the postulants/novices make their professions before the Bishop. Might be an interesting way to celebrate the feast, if you have a Dominican convent within driving distance.

We've been reading about St. Dominic, too, and at Mass today we were blessed with a relic! We didn't know our priest had one so it was a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure what it was exactly because he left it on the altar in a sort of reliquary and it was very small and then he took off so we didn't get to ask him about it. I didn't feel right walking up to the altar to inspect it after Mass--are you even allowed to do that?

I'll be sure to ask this priest, though, the next time we see him.

How lovely Molly!

The 8th was yesterday for us - we started with these beautiful quotes for copywork:

Arm yourself with prayer rather than a sword;
wear humility rather than fine clothes.
- St. Dominic

A man who governs his passions is master of the world. We must either command them, or be enslaved by them. It is better to be a hammer than an anvil.
— St. Dominic

We had a lovely discussion about the second quote in particular - such an important point!
