Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Johann Strauss will be our August composer. (Make sure you get the correct Strauss---Johann II)

Strauss

Don't forget to emphasize that he is "the waltz king." Maybe it would be fun to teach the waltz to the kids, also. Have them feel the 1-2-3, 1-2-3. . .

Listen to whatever of Strauss' that you can get your hands on:

particular favorites are:
1. Blue Danube Waltz

2. excerpts from Die Fledermaus- Adele's laughing song is particularly good because she sounds like she's laughing

Do they still have the Strauss Festival in Sacramento? I fell in love there (with Strauss, that is)

Oh my gosh! A Touch of Strauss starts tomorrow!
I just don't think I'll be able to find airline tickets quite quick enough!

I am absolutely tickled pink!!! I was looking for books on Strauss II so we can read up on him, and didn't find any kiddie ones (any suggestions? I checked 3 libraries and Amazon -- maybe there's one out there I missed?)...

So I went to Mike Venezia's site thinking maybe he's got one listed there -- but no -- so I wrote him and asked if he's got plans for a Strauss Jr. book. That was 3 hours ago. I just got this:

Quote:
Stephanie,

Thanks for your interest in my books. I'm sorry to say I don't have immediate plans to do any more composer books. I hope to get back to artists and composers when I finish up my presidents series. I agree a book on Johann I, II, and the whole Strauss family would make a great book(s). I'll think about presenting this possibility to my publisher along with my other new title requests. Thanks again.

Mike Venezia

It looks like we may have to wait awhile for a Mike Venezia book on the Srausses, but just wanted to share that he does answer letters (and how quickly too!) in case you and/or your kids want to write him!
