Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We recently went to our local art museum where MC Escher's work was exhibited.

Does anyone have any recommendations on any books about him? His art?

Any ideas for projects?

TIA!

Wish Libby were here. She's our Escher buff.

If you like odd films, Labyrinth (David Bowie, Jennifer Connolly) has an Escher scene...may be too intense for younger audiences.

The logical project would be to do some tesselations.
I really like this website. It gives info on Escher and tesselations and tips on how to do your own, using several methods. Tesselations were a big hit with my middle schoolers when I taught in public schools.

I was thinking about this but haven't done anything to facilitate it...

I was wondering if anyone knew of some short stories of his life....or some living books...just to give some background info.

My children are still young (ages 5-9) so I don't want it to be too much but to have a little meat.

Thanks for the idea.

A good book with lots of reproductions which divides his drawings into different types of images (regular division of a plane, spatial rings and spirals, mirror images, etc.) is The Graphic Work of M.C. Escher (ISBN #0-517-38573-2). It's available used from Amazon.

If you've got the textbook Discovering Geometry, it's got a great section on tesselations. Also, there's a kit called M.C. Escher Kaleidocycles (also at Amazon) that looks like fun - but we keep putting it off .

Several years ago I found a calendar with Escher prints - sorry, I don't remember where.

Have fun!
