All Stephen Meader are highly recommended. He was very prolific and I find he has covered the major time periods of American history. I tend to forget to check him sometimes, but should on every American history era.

Agreed! She would be the perfect author for it.

Here is one picture book - Malian's Song. It is very informative and the pictures are great. It's based on a true story of the raid on a St. Francis Abenaki mission told from the point of view of a young native girl and her fammily. Includes mention of the Black Robe, Fr. Roubaud, priest at the mission. The story comes from oral tradition of teh Abenaki, writings of Fr. Roubaud, and Major Robert Roger's journal.

Daniel Boone Woodsman of Kentucky is not exactly a picture book ( or how I define it) but is a good book and covers his involement in the F & I Wars.

Jenn, did you see this one in person or just find it online? I ended up requesting it on library loan and even though it's abridged, think it would be a great resource for this time period with younger ones. I'll admit to not being familiar with the original Longfellow poem, so read it as well. It's way too long for a picture book so I think the abridgment is good and the language is more accessible for young children. It tells the basic story and is true to it. This would be a case where I think an abridged version is okay and useful.

Just returned this to the library. Very good children's story on the topic. OOP Landmark Book with was reprinted by Penguin Publishing.

Now how did I not realize it was a Landmark?

Years ago our family visited St. Martinville, Louisiana, which has the Evangeline Oak and other sites based on Evangeline. It did make quite an impression on me.

The girls and I are having trouble understanding the reader. Sometimes Librivox is hit or miss.    Maybe someone from a different region would not have any difficulty understanding her though.
