Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Remember to listen to Bach this month. . .

Just jump right in there with whatever CD you have/can find.

We listened today as we cleaned up our Family Room and I had forgotten how much I loved his music. My kids really love it, too. We have a basic "Greastest Hits" type CD that we started with.

The link to another thread--March composer

Sarah,
Thanks for the reminder, Bach is our family fav!
We were blessed to go to a Organ concert, given
by Hector Olivera, and he played Toccata and Fugue in D,
a classic!!! ( along with other classics from Bach)
Oh to hear those again in our churches!
Blessings,

Here's a gret picture book the littles and I read today -- Bach's Big Adventure by Sallie Ketcham. It's a story that Bach often told about wanting to go see the great organist Adam Reincken of Hamburg.

The kids liked it becuase it was about Bach when he was a kid!

Tomorrow, March 21, is Johann Sebastian Bach's 322nd birthday anniversary! Sirius Radio's Symphany Hall (Channel 80) will be celebrating!

From their write up - Universally recognized as one of the greatest figures in the history of music, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was both a brilliant organist and composer of considerable reputation in his native Germany. No other composer has done as much or gone as far in perfecting existing forms of music. Join in the celebration as we mark the 322nd birthday anniversary of this Baroque genius. Symphony Hall will feature Bach's solo instrumental, chamber and orchestral works every hour throughout the day beginning at 9 am ET.

Two more Bach books we've found,
Bach's Goldberg Variations

Sebastian: A Book about Bach

I know this is last March's Composer thread, but with the extra books we found I thought it might best belong here.

Thanks Jennifer!

Helen is now the Composer of the Month lady. She may have a new composer for this March 2007, but we're excited to check out your info, Jennifer.

Now where is that baton? I'm always misplacing things. ... oh, here it is...
Jennifer .... catch!

(Earlier I recommended Bruckner, but really Bach is probably a better choice!)

Oh no, Helen! That is why I posted it under last March's Composer.

I tend to think about it rather like this - we now have over a year's worth of artists and composers to choose from, I haven't studied them all yet by any means! So if I know of something cool that may lend itself to that month's study - local Strauss Concert in the Park maybe - I would do a search for Strauss and study him that month instead of the new Composer. I might find a cool new book during that time and include it in the thread just to keep all the info together.

Oh dear! Does that make sense?

Definitely makes sense!
I just wanted to show my willingness to let others become Composer of the Month Lady.

I can continue, if you would like. I have a few ideas sketched out at least until July - maybe even August. (My husband loves classical music and has been the force behind these studies.)

But if we need some fresh air around here that's fine as well. I am completely understanding.

I am so thankful for both of you!

Jennifer, I like the way you think. It is so different being the teacher AND the mom. We studied Bach two years ago, and silly me, I thought we were done. So last year we did someone else when this thread came up. Then wouldn't you know it, my ds found a biography of Bach this year that he LOVED and suddenly we were doing Bach again! This has happened over and over and my oldest is only in thrid grade! Things we love get re-visited all the time and it is nice to have new information to add to our renewed interest.

Helen! Your choices have been so interesting and so appropriate to the time of year. I really appreciate your work as "Composer of the Month Lady." I can hardly wait to see who you have planned to do next!
