Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Jenny, here are some thoughts shared around this time last year, Happy Home Educators. I re-read what I wrote then and stand by it . Right now, I'm pondering how being content...really content...is connected to joy and happiness.

Love,

I printed out Angie's thoughts/list when she posted that and shared with my husband. They help a lot when I feel like I'm starting to "go under."

Yes, the life of John Bosco is interesting, and you can see his (almost) unfailing charity and cheerfulness in books and movies about him, but the book I found that contains the most of his writings translated into English is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Educational-Philosophy-Saint-John-Bosc o/dp/0899440509

Its a little pricy, because it's out of print, but I hung around Amazon until someone sold a copy to me for $15! (It never hurts to ask a seller to consider a lower price!)

A search on the internet for his writings "John Bosco Educational Philosophy" would be good.

Peace,
Macmom

Peace,
Macmom

I'm reflecting on gratitude this Lent. Joy often comes with gratitude. As the priest says at Mass, "We do well always and everywhere to give You (God) thanks and praise." Maintaining a grateful attitude to God for all His many gifts, (including those that come in disguise) can help us find joy.

We can be thankful for our children, for the opportunity to teach them, and for stashes of chocolate.

Thank you, Angie! I missed your excellent list of ideas the first time that you shared it. I just copied it and plan to print it when I am able.

Yes. There is a wonderful priest to whom I go for confession and he always talks about having a thankful heart. He says if we are truly thankful, many sins of selfishness can be avoided. And making the list helps! I've read blogs where the writer keeps lists of the 100's of things they are thankful for as they happen. I've done that in a notebook and my attitude does become more joyful. I'm trying to get one started for all of us (the kids, my dh and I) to add to. I need a new plan though because we don't seem to be able to remember to do it!
