Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

WORSHIP.

I have been reading Edward M. Hay's "Pray All Ways" and thinking of how to consecrate every-day moments of mothering. this is the word that keeps coming to mind.

I awoke suddenly at 5am the other morning with a word: FOCUS. My family has decided to have this be our word. Working together we hope to focus more on the moment and focus on what is most important -- God and our faith.

When I looked up the word for definitions I found that in Latin Focus means fireplace or hearth (center of the home). This is exactly what we need and strive for, God at the center of our home and hearts.

Cay, thanks for starting this thread!

Hope

Hope for the coming year.....that Lily will get her trach out after doing fine with her upcoming jaw reconstruction.....that we will get through all of this knowing, “I can do all things in Christ Who strengthens me” and we can move on to the next big phase....talking and eating for Lily!

It is so easy to get boggled down by all of the details with special needs kids, I am filled with HOPE that God will be merciful and fill us with the grace needed to accomplish all of this.

Great thread, Cay!

God bless you 4 lads...yes, one CAN get bogged down with special needs children.

I am choosing the word FOCUS (thanks for the idea!) because between work, caring for Dad, a special needs child, husband, house, homeschooling, and growing as a person and in my faith, I NEED focus! I get so distracted and forget so easily...and I know that if I focus on Jesus, the other areas will come together.

Our priest said once that we should ask for the memory of Jesus, because He had an awesome memory (teaching in the temple at 12). I really like that prayer.

Of course, having Michelle's planner helps!! LOVE IT!

For Lent the last two years my "word" has been "Now" (from 2 Cor. 6:2 "Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.") and I continue to use it as my 'motto' of sorts daily. More in the mind of being present to life now. Drinking in the sweetness of the moment (or chaos as the case may be ) of my family, my circumstances, my life. Taking the bad with the good and just being. But also savoring --I didn't do enough of that when I was a much younger mom. Mind you there are plenty of things I need to improve on and I am trying (I am sitting at the Y right now typing this --I am done my workout but hubby does a much longer one so I wait for him) but just being here now is my main focus.

I am absolutely with those who are striving to live in the present moment. No.more.multitasking. No.more.fixing.thoughts.on.the.past.or.the.future. One.thing.at.a.time. FULL STOP. So often I try to hold way too many thoughts and concerns at one time. No good ever comes of this - it yields stress, fatigue, irritability, and inefficiency because I am so distracted. I humbly admit that I am just one weak, limited human creature!

Peace,
Nancy

Those 3M products work very well. They have ones that are like velcro and have held up a really big picture of mine over the back door. I'm sure they'll hold up letter. I know exactly what you're talking about as I have some of those letters.

I've decided to go with ORDER. And, along with that JOY.

Order is what I need as my life has gotten away from me. And, I've felt little joy the past year and want to have it in my life. My children deserve that from me.

Well, that's more than one suggestion for sticky backed velcro, so I think I'll give that a try. I used the clear sticky squares the first time because I knew it would come off the wall easily. That's my only hesitation with the sticky velcro. My letters are going on a painted wall.

If you use the 3M ones (the ones that your stretch to remove), you won't mark up your walls or pull paint off. It's like a post-it for the walls but sturdier.

Like a couple of you other ladies here, my word this year is QUIET.

Bookswithtea wrote:
This year, my word is 'quiet'. Its a narrowing of both my focus on gentleness and on simplicity. Quieting my heart, quieting my immediate responses, speaking with a quiet tone, being quiet so that I can hear God, quieting any excess busyness in our daily schedules, quieting our home environment, quieting how I spend my time and information overload. Its all about quiet this year.

This resonates with me. I hope to develop a quiet spirit and mind this year, along with cutting down on some of the idle chatter and complaining I put my husband through. (You'd be surprised how much a girl without a drop of sanguinity in her can talk! )

This is just beautiful and so ironic to read that is is yours, too, Michele. I was praying about my word days ago and this one came to my mind! But as in: NOW. Do it NOW. If it can be done, do it. Don't put it off. Get up and go kiss your husband. Put away that laundry if you can instead of waiting until tomorrow morning. Do the treatments. Etc. etc. AND I also was considering living in the NOW. But mainly it was hitting me as "DON'T WAIT".

I didn't end up choosing the word for I was dissuaded by the thought that it may be *too* "insistent" for the exact spiritual place I'm in right now. That it may be skewed toward the negative (i.e "pressure") by my own mind rather than toward the positive, as you've so well defined. Living in the present moment a la Mother Angelica, and in abandonment and total trust, with awareness of the presence of God and in His Will---- with me NOW.

But it is definitely Number Two. If I need to Major in CONFIDENCE, then I need to Minor in NOW.

when I first saw this post I thought how could I sum up a whole year with one word ! my mood , calling , experiences will change so one word . Well I guess praying about it and trying to focus pays off because yesterday He sent it to me lets see if I can get that font to change colour the word is not to big or complicated and whenever I'm feeling beat down or not good enough I'll try to have this word pop into my brain the word is Shine
as in to just shine , be yourself , the real you
I like it , cheery , bright , motivating word that it is . now I'll have that song This little light of mine in my head

this is great! Being yourself, even at mama age, can be difficult. I love all of the unique words everyone came up with.

Holiness.

In doing some soul searching over the past few days, I realize that although my family has grown since my marriage (by a multiple of 5! First we were two...and now we are ten!) and that my responsibilities have increased ten-fold...I can't honestly see that I have grown in holiness. I am not even sure what that means, to be frank...but it is what I intend to try and learn...through more frequent reception of the Holy Eucharist, and more time spent in silence in front of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Peace.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's words. These are beautiful.

My word is SILENCE. This is to remind me to shut my mouth and listen, mostly to my children and to God, and to remind me to take my focus off of myself and look to others. I also am reminded that many of our challenges can be resolved by action rather than words, especially discipline. I tend to fall into the trap of arguing/debating with my children.

My Scripture to coordinate is Luke 2:19 - "But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart." I hope to spend more time in quiet reflection on God's presence and role in my life, hoping this will remind me to turn to Him more often throughout my days and deepen my relationship with Him.
