Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anybody used videos or dvds to teach this? I saw quite a lot on Amazon that looked interesting and it occured to me this might be a fairly painless way to try.

Pam

whose sons will leave home with no manners at all because I have been dithering for years on what to do to teach them...

From the Taming the Kitchen Monster thread:

For the little ones (ages 3-7)?? learning manners......my girls LOVE the Miss Shirley Finishing School

It's quite cheesy, but my daughters LOVE watching this silly thing over and over again! We check it out at the library. It has helped them to be excited about table manners and just general "awareness". There ARE boys in the video, but I don't know how BOYS would react to this kind of video. I only know girls    About 6 months ago, we had a "white tablecloth fancy Miss Shirley dinner" where the girls (and us, of course ) did everything "just like in the video." It made it kind of fun!

There are a couple others that we've checked out from the library....I'll see if I can find and link later.

Living in NC, I've been taken back by all the manners and proper etiquette classes. I'm reminded I live in the south quite often! Do these classes work, really?

What do you think about cotillion classes? These are big in our area (and costly)- I am a little sceptical of them as I wonder why we would pay to have someone else teach our kids' manners - but I would be interested in hearing different opinions on this.

My son just finished his second year with the National League of Junior Cotillions. My son is more confident in social situations because he knows exactly what to do. Plus, he really liked the ballroom dance lessons. We are very happy with the program.

My boys are little but I really need to reinforce good manners. I've enjoyed reading through this and getting some ideas for other books I hadn't heard off before.

This year for my first grader, I've included some books on manners already mentioned on this thread, but besides reading them we are also going to do some copywork from our selections every week.

Thanks for bumping.
