i hope this is the right forum for this topic. i'm expecting my 4th baby and already have 2 boys and a girl (jarrod paul, seth adam and katia ann). i have a girl name for the new baby (gemma frances) but am struggling with the boy name. we have a long german last name that begins with an R so i'd like something short for the first name. It's a good thing i have several months to go, but boy names are so hard. I wonder if i can tap you all for some good boy names?

Of boy names we've used, my favorite is Jacob. I also love the name Luke (but we avoided it since we have a Leah and didn't want to have the Star Wars comments all the time).

Karl or Martin might work well with a German last name. They were used in my dh's German side of the family. St. Martin de Porres is a favorite of mine.

We're just the opposite here...after 4 girls finding girl names is so hard! But we have had boy names in the wings for years now. They are more on the traditional side though, I see that you like to choose names that are just a touch more unique (and beautiful, I might add!) Our boy choices are: James, Joseph ...and if we ever have more than two boys, then probably Alex. I like Lucas and Thomas but dh has reasons not to use them. Maybe for middle names. 
Other than short, what kinds of names do you like?

I'm also expecting my 4th. I have 2 boys and a girl too. My first thought on a short boy's name is also Luke. I love it, but I don't think it sounds that great with Wilcox. I don't like the 2 "k" sounds in a row. My husband likes Jacob and wants to call him Jake, which has the same 2 "k" sounds. We are considering Andrew, Stephen, Michael. We like common Bible names. For a girl, I think we decided on Emma Grace. Some of my German relatives names are James, George and John. That's all I can think of right now.

We know a local family with 4 (now grown) boys. I have always loved their names: Abraham, Simeon, Jonas and Elias. My oldest ds is Abraham, so I'm a bit biased I guess. I also love old-fashioned Hebrew names. The boys shorten their names to Abe, Sim, Joe, and Eli. Samuel and Josiah are also a favorites of mine. And BTW, I absolutely love your children's names, especially Seth.

Luke is my dh's favorite boy name, but it just doesn't grab me. i think jacob is lovely, but there sure are a lot of them. i like names that are classical, but not so common. the middle name will be francis (after a family member). there are lots of james, paul, thomas, john, and marys in our family, so the more simple names are already in use. have you ever used name nerds?
i have been tossing around elliot, kurt, peter, alec, but really none of them seem 'just right.'

If it's any consolation - I think I "settled" for 2-3 of my four girls' names. But now, those names do seem "just right". At the time though, they were all we could agree upon.

Yes, it is common - has been in the top ten the last 10 years or more, but in our circles I guess we don't run into it that much. We also have a Joseph and definitely have lots more of those around (especially in the Catholic homeschool community ).

We are expecting out eight. We tend to go for 3 syllable names however and unusual ones. Oh and saints names. Once again we are in the midst of the 'great name battle'.
Mmm, short names to go with Jarrod and Seth. How about Ethan or Jacob? Do you want more bibilical names? My friend has short biblical names for her five boys. Jesse, Caleb, Isaac, Noah and Levi.

I love the name Peter, but won't ever be able to use it because our last name is Peterson and I just couldn't do that to a child!

Well we were leaning towards either Martin Levi or Levi Martin in case of a boy. I like the name Silas too.
Now if you want authentic German, you can use my grandfather's name of Zeut (pronounced zoo-t) or his dad's name Frederick.
Personally, I'm kind of sweet on the name Fritz (another form of Frederick) but my dh jokes that's just a mean thing to to do a boy. This from a man who would be thrilled to name all our dc along a Star Wars theme! I just know if I didn't put my foot down years ago with the first son, we'd be stuck with naming our 6th son Wookie.

Dh's family is Austrian and German. Some family names dating back to 1800s: Ambrose, James, Leonard...old school names. Dh wants to use Ambrose someday...I'm not so sure.
