Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just love reading this stuff. This is from the Old Farmer's Almanac:

Cabbage seeds are often planted today, and old-time farmers believed that to make them grow well, you needed to plant them while wearing your nightclothes.

St. Patrick's Day is also the traditional time for sowing green peas.

On St. Patrick’s Day, the warm side of a rock turns up, and the broad-back goose begins to lay.

We used to plant "Peas and potatoes by St. Paddy's." But that was in a much warmer state then we presently live in.
