Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

...who thought that the prayer of St. Patrick was actually written by St. Patrick just as it is copied without alteration? I was reading my SIL's blog post about the history of this poetic translation and realized that this whole time, I thought he had written it himself in the modern English text that I am so familiar seeing. I don't even know what language he would have really spoken in much less written in. This is what scares me about teaching my kids history. Am I teaching them or are they going to be teaching me?

It doesn't matter as long as everyone is learning

Would you also be devastated to learn that the "Prayer of St. Francis" is not written by him at all, just in the spirit of his preaching?

The greatest thing about learning is that it happens our whole life long! All we really need is a humble attitude and a knowledge of the truths of the Faith. Then we are open to learning and accepting the truth about things when we find it out, and we will be able to discern a falsehood.

Charlotte, this is happening to me now. I minored in history in college...a few years ago. Now I am relearning it with my ds as he studies medieval history and church history. Some of it I remember and some of it is new to me. But it has been a great experience.

And the same is true for geography as well. My dd is doing the flags of the world and when I took geography Russia was part of the USSR and considered part of Asia. Not anymore.

Learning never stops. Even when you get to be my age.
