Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It all started with this picture book.

Upon a search for Joan Alavedra, I happened upon the name Pablo Casals and found that he wrote a piece of music for her poem that the book is based on.

Here is a clip.

Then I found this which is a book about his life. Click on chapter 2 (on the sidebar) where he talks a bit about being a child musician and how important the story of the Nativity had been to him. I thought this whole chapter might be nice for anyone with a young musician.

I had never heard of him before - anyone else? Might make a nice study for this time of year.

Edit - I put this in the wrong forum - sorry - maybe it should be moved to the music section!

Maybe because my dd plays cello I have heard of him. I have heard a recording of him playing Etudes. Amazing! I don't know anything about him personally. That piece of music that you linked to is very nice. I could almost hear the shepherds and sheep on the hill.....
