Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok everyone, please I need book suggestions. My 6 year old loves A. Lincoln. We will be touring Springfield IL in August and I would love some living books to read to her on the hour drive there and at night around the campfire. We have L is for Lincoln (the IL state alphabet book) and she loves it.

TIA

Abraham Lincoln by Ingri and Edgar Parin D'Aulaire is our favorite book about him!

A few others I remembered: A Picture Book of Abraham Lincoln by David Adler

L is for Lincoln An Illinois Alphabet by Kathy-jo Wargin

An old thread that might be useful: Lincoln and Washington

ETA: OOPS! I realized you posted the alphabet book already! Sorry

Considering the upcoming Lincoln bicentennial (1809-2009) which is getting lots of attention this is a great topic to cover. Here are some picture books we have enjoyed that I don't think have been mentioned yet.

Abe Lincoln Remembers - Ann Turner (Wendall Minor's illlustrations are wonderful)

Vinnie and Abraham- Dawn Fitzgerald

Abraham Lincoln: Sixteenth President – Mike Venezia

If You Grew Up with Abraham Lincoln - Ann McGovern

Mr. Lincoln’s Whiskers - Karen Winnick

When Abraham talked to Trees - Elizabeth Steenwyk

Cheryl Harness has two, covering different periods of his life:
Young Abe Lincoln
Abe Lincoln Goes to Washington

I haven't seen this one yet - it comes out this summer. It looks good though. Abraham Lincoln Comes Home - Robert Burleigh

And it's not a book for read-aloud, but we have always enjoyed the Chicago Review Press "for Kids" books for activities - Abraham Lincoln for Kids.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

Yes, we are very excited about the bicentennial, we live a block from one of the stops he and Douglas made. Dd is looking forward to waching a reenactment of some debates.

HSS has a new unit and lapbook out on Abraham Lincoln, you might check that out and see what books are mentioned there.
