Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you go to this old thread and scroll down, you'll find some comments about the pros and cons of Van Loon and other recommendations.

Speaking of tipping the balance...has anyone covered CWH Vol 1 and Vol 2 in one year? My oldest is not really interested in the crafts/hand-on activities, but it still may be too much.

That is more or less what we did last year, though I will admit we had already covered what was covered in the first five or so units in previous years. I think it is doable, but it really depends on what your kids have previously studied and how deeply you intend to go.

We already had a decent understanding of Bible History from Creation through Moses, plus Mesopotamia and Egypt, so we jumped in with the United Kingdom (Unit Six in Vol. 1) and went from there. I really wanted to focus more on Ancient Greece and Rome, so we spent more time on the units that related to these civilizations.

What is currently available for Vol. 2 goes up through the Fall of Rome/Early Middle ("Dark") Ages. You could feasibly work your way up through unit four, which focuses on the Early Church in the Roman Empire, then the following year use units five and six to introduce the Fall of Rome and the beginning of the Middle Ages. Maybe by that time Sonya will have completed Unit Seven.

Valerie I am getting ready to skim through the SOTW book list on your blog. So here I go again thinking I have it figured out and then I see your list.
