Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Loved it!

A book based on a real family's journey to California in 1859. Just published in April 2008:

The Elephant Quilt

Our library doesn't have it yet, bummer. We just read Josephina Story Quilt, but I had been led to believe it was more meaty and interesting and didn't care for it much. I'm looking forward to this one.

This is a beautiful book, Cay! Thanks!

It's the same illustrator as Boxes for Katje

Eight Hands Round: A Patchwork Alphabet by Ann Whitford Paul

It describes in words and pictures, 26 different quilt patterns, placing each in historical context.

Picrues are lovely, words are lovely.

Great thrift store find

Also good for those who like picture books about quilts......like me!

The Quiltmaker's Gift by Jeff Brumbeau (I think there are other Quiltmaker books) and they have a website

I'm sure some of you have read The Quiltmaker's Gift by Jeff Brumbeau but there is a prequel called The Quiltmaker's Journey which we just read this weekend and think is just as good. It made us go back and re-read the gift one again, too. And, since I had just recently told the kids I'd teach them to make some quilts, they fit right in. Our first quilt will be for Project Linus or another similar organization, to follow in the Quiltmaker's footsteps a bit.
