Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for opinions about some Diane Stanley books. My daughter and I recently read Cleopatra and found it (especially the mosaic illustrations) to be fabulous.

Now, I am looking into book selections as we are heading into our study of the middle ages/renaissance and there are several Diane Stanley books for this time period. Are these books Catholic-friendly?

We used several of these. I don't remember any anti catholic themes but it has been awhile. I think we looked at the Joan of Arc book and the Leonardo one.

I own most of her books, but it's obvious they are from a Protestant slant - "Good Queen Bess" for instance ... That didn't stop me from purchasing some of them though. They are readily available at most libraries so you can preview before buying.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I think we'll check out a couple from the library.

Just a warning. I remember there was one Diane Stanley book that I decided not to read to my young ones. I cannot remember now which book it was and what the problem was. I know, not much help, huh?

I know it had some thing to do with protecting their innocence, as in there might have been references to out of wedlock birth or something like that.

Hi Irene,

It's her book on Leonardo da Vinci. It's right in the beginning. What I usually do in those cases is pull out my handy-dandy Sharpie .
