Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The illustrations are sweet - the animal characters are quite engaging. It is a humorous tale of developing friendship and persistence that children and adults will enjoy. I love the facial expressions for highlighting their emotions. The dialogue is fun and written in a style that comes alive with the emotion of the characters as well. I think it could be used in conjunction with studying the parable of the persistent friend, Luke 11: 5-10.

We just read the sequel to this book. It's more an early reader than a picture book this time, but still has great pictures. The new book is A Birthday for Bear and is about mouse's attempts to help his unwilling bear friend celebrate his birthday.

And we also found this book on the "new books" shelf at the library today - Gruff the Grump - also about a grumpy bear who doesn't get along with anyone and is lonely, but a persistent friendly small creature (in this case a rabbit) worms his way into bear's life and brightens it. Seems a common theme - grumpy bears befriended by little creatures.
