Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What versions of the Bible are approved for Catholic use? I googled that very question and the top link was to Jack Chick's site-not a pleasant place to be. So I thought I would check here!
Thanks!
Jennifer

I do not have a definitive list, but I can tell you that the 3 main ones used (and approved) are these:

RSV (Revised Standard Version)--"Ignatius Bible", considered very accurate and still very good English(NOT NRSV, which has inclusive language).

Jerusalem Bible--again, very scholarly translation, but with a more poetic feel.

NAB (New American Bible)-- this is what you are hearing at Mass and will be in most missals. It's actually a pretty poor translation *sorry* with lots of modernisms and even some downright errors.
I would NOT use this for a family Bible, it has no nuance in translation of any "adult" issues.

my o2.
hope it helps,
ck

EWTN has an article about this.

My favorite is the Jerusalem Bible.

The most accurate and correct translation is the Douay Rheims.
