Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Are they allowed? I was planning on making a broccoli and cheese soup but it calls for chicken bouillons.

Thanks!

I don't believe so. But you can get chicken flavored bullion that doesn't have any meat products in it at all (I use McKay's brand). Or a vegetable bullion (different flavor)

Seems to me that I heard that this has recently been approved, but I cannot remember the source. Anyone?

I can't find an official quote, but generally what I'm reading is that if it resembles flesh meat, than you can't eat it, and broths, gelatins, bouilions are fine to use.

I asked a priest several years ago and he said what Jenn said.

I just always substitute veg bullion cubes (at kroger) I've also found them in the Kosher food section in grocery stores, and everything turns out fine.....

I swap veg bouillon cubes for chicken all the time and no one ever notices. I use them for lentil soup, in particular, a family favorite.

I must confess that giving up meat isn't a huge sacrifice around here...we don't eat beef anyway...I feel guilty enjoying my pasta with tuna and tomato sauce.

Now, if we had to sacrifice artificially sweetened carbonated beverages...

(Jenn, please don't tell me Diet Coke is a meat product!)
