Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For those of you who are fans (or were thinking about becoming fans) of The Root Children, The Wind Children, or The Snow Children -- you might be interested to know that the author, Sibylle vonOlfers, was a Catholic Sister of St. Elisabeth (of Hungary) and a Catholic school teacher. Here's a blog post I wrote if you'd like more info.

Pretty cool, huh?

Mary, I thought this was the coolest thing! It's like Sister Berta Hummel--love the Catholic connection.

But I don't appreciate spending more money.

Connections like this make my day!

Though I didn't really like seeing all the Pagan Book Lists this book is a part of...it needs to be added to a Good Catholic Book List on Amazon pronto! IMO...

Mary I am *thrilled* to learn this!! (And Jenn, I didn't know that about Sr. Hummel either! No wonder most of the women in my family own (or owned) collections! )

Mary,
Our library doesn't have any of these. When I searched I was led to this book When the Root Children Wake Up by Audrey Wood illustrated by Ned Bittinger.

On the back flap about Audrey Wood it reads: "And she now tips her hat to the forces of nature in this glorious retelling of Sibylle von Olfers' 1906 classic."

The girls and I are reading that.

Cay -- can you do ILL -- our library didn't have them either but when I requested thru ILL, the powers that be decided to get them for our system!

I just think they're beautiful books -- like Elsa Beskow meeting Cicely Mary Barker -- and finding the Catholic connection was a real bonus.
