Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Here are a few off the top of my head ....
Story of the Trapp Family Singers -- MUCH better than the movie (altho you could watch that too)
Maria -- an interesting "sequel" that covers more of what really happened
My Dancing White Horses -- this one is GREAT!
White Stallion of Lippiza -- this is the one the Disney Movie, Miracle of the White Stallions is based on. Excellent book on its own.
Any books about Mozart or Beethoven.

That's all I can think of now. Most are oop , but you can probably find them at the library. I'll keep thinking and looking.

The School at the Chalet by Elinor M. Brent Dyer (an Englishwoman starts a school in Austria - the author later converted to Catholicism and her books contain many Catholic references)

Lisa and Lottie by Erich Kastner (the film The Parent Trap was based on this book)

Children of the Book by Peter Carter (children's fiction about the Turkish attack on Vienna in 1683)

I just saw this post and HAD to second Kathryn's rec for the "Chalet School" series by Elinore Brent-Dyer. I loved these books and they are chock-full of information on Austria. They actually inspired us to pick up and take a month long "Chalet School" trip of our own to the area where they were written---Innsbruck area, not far from Salzburg. Did our own little Chalet School thing and enjoyed it ever so much. Just today the kids and I were talking about that trip and how we'd like to go back there for Christmas someday! Anyway, the best books of the series are the first five, IMHO, beginning with the "School at the Chalet" followed by "Jo of the Chalet School", "The Princess of the Chalet School", "The Head Girl of the Chalet School" and "Rivals of the Chalet School". I've always said I wanted my homeschool to be like the Chalet School-they are lovely books.

Happy Reading!
