I haven't joined in on the conversation because we aren't coffee drinkers around here, but I have begun to spread the word to family and the teenagers at church who are all Starbucks junkies. That's quite a few people if the corporate people care!
There just have to be alternatives to Starbucks!! Again, having no experience in the coffee area myself, what about local places? I know a really cute place just opened near us and they are always packed!
Personally, I prefer to save the calories of a fancy coffee for a really big piece of cheesecake or chocolate something or ice cream sundae or......

My 15 yr old dd and 12 yr old ds and I sneak off to Starbucks whenever we can. It took forever to get a SB in our neck of the swamps.  My dh thinks we're half cracked to pay $4 bucks for a cup of coffee. 
But I still find myself partial to Joe Muggs at our Books-A-Million store. I think my 12 yr old does too.
Anyone know of any hanky-panky going on with Joe Muggs? If not, I'll be comforted in the fact I can still get my cuppa mugg there. 
I adored the quotes on my SB cups. I only came across one that was  questionable. . And it wasn't so off the wall that I panicked.
Now I see the writing on the...cup!

My husband emailed Starbucks HQ and they set back some whimpy letter about 'diversity'. As if providing innocent children with info about sodomy is diverse - and not perverse. Their response was pathetic. We have sent the info to all our relatives that are Starbuck's heaviest users.
It is definitely important that each person contact the HQ of SB to make their opinion known. Then giving up your fav cuppa' joe with be more purposeful.
I'm enjoying the local mom and pop place now. It is closer anyhow. My husband quit coffee 2-3 months ago but he has on 3 occasions treated himself to a SB mocha since. Well that is over. I'm going to forward the info to my local homeschool loop too. Thanks Elizabeth.

Dd was having pangs at Barnes and Noble yesterday so we swung into the Einstein Bros. Bagles next door for a Iced Mocha. It was pretty tasty. Unfortunately that was the only kind besides plain. Cost $2.99.

No, no, NO! I can't believe it! I'm a No Foam Latte Extra Hot addict...and they're building a Starbucks within spitting distance of us, at last. Say it ain't so! Wah!
I had noticed those silly things on the side of the cups, too, and had commented on how goofy they were. I probably shouldn't be surprised about their corporate donations to PP and other outrageous groups. But I'm sad to say goodbye to my lattes...

LOL! I am sorry for you, especially now that a Starbuck's is finally opening nearby, but this passage is so funny! Nice job finding humor in a disappointing situation.

P.S. Ever since my husband splurged for the fabulous Bunn Coffee Maker, I have had no desire to go to Starbuck's (or anywhere else for that matter). It consistently makes excellent coffee, and best of all, the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot without making it bitter after a few minutes. It's so handy that I can even brew a pot and bring it to a friend's house right in the carafe!
It's expensive, but after a few weeks of a Starbuck's boycott, you'll all have plenty of money to spare!

Ha ha, Alice. Your bubble hit my bubble. My husband---feeling deeply for his Bucktooth-deprived bride---sprung for a fancy cappucino maker today. The kids found it for me at a store and convinced Dad that it was a lot cheaper than the 9000-a-week (or so it seems) Starbuck coffees we consume...

I resurrected this thread because this morning, my dear husband brewed coffee and offered me a cup. I took a whiff and refused (sweetly). And then I got to thinking...
in August 2005, I gave up Starbucks. I've probably had fewer than ten coffee drinks (frozen drinks included) since then at the two other local coffee shops. Lest you think I have incredible self control, let me remind you that I threw up for nine months of that time and coffee really didn't have any appeal for me.
But now I'm back in that old familiar sleep-deprived, craving-something-sweet mindset and I don't want coffee any more. I know I'm better off without it. I know I'm more even-tempered. And I also know that the two times in my life I've struggled with depression are, coincidentally?, the only two times I've been a caffeine drinker. Hmmm...
So, I'm sipping postpartum tea and milkmaid tea and counting all the pennies I've saved as I drive by the Starbucks.
But I do admit to missing having someone do something exactly the way I want it, with a smile every time.

This couldn't have come at a better time Elizabeth. I have decided to de-caffinate myself and I'm not looking forward to it. Luckily, I never got addicted to Starbucks. For me it is coffee with lots of cream and sugar or black tea. I'd like to think tea has less caffine, but I guess caffine is still caffine! You've given me some encouragement!

I wasn't on this board when the original thread was going on. I was particularly amused by the response from SB to Elizabeth -- Dear Ms. Foss. I never thought of Elizabeth that way!!
Actually, I've never been a fan of SB's product - the coffee always tastes burned to me. As to Caribou, this summer dd#2 married the man who had been her boss at Caribou two summers ago, so I guess Caribou sets pretty well with this family!
We have a cappuccino maker that does a great job (the machine AND the cappuccino maker -- I never use it, but dh makes some very nice drinks on it). We've made some excellent chai lattes by using spiced tea bags, sugar, and milk warmed in the microwave. Definitely much cheaper than buying a drink somewhere else or buying chai mix.
I'm moving from coffee to green tea in the a.m. -- black tea, which I truly enjoy, is too rough on my stomach first thing in the morning.
It is one of the tricky parts of life in *these times* to realize how much companies that are part of our everyday lives embrace so many really rotten agendas.

Hi All,
It is funny that you bring this up of all weeks...I have been on a little Starbuck's kick lately. I read this thread a long time ago...felt like in the midst of my little DS having many, many surgeries, I could only give up SO much...and SB wasn't going to be it. I know, pathetic, but true...This past week I had to give up on a part time business commitment I had been involved in because it became very apparent to me there was a real conflict of Church teachings and this business. It has been pretty humbling to explain to people that thought I was gungho on this that now I am NOT, but I need that kind of mortification anyway. Anyhoo, this has got me thinking...I am done with Starbuck's... THERE, I SAID IT!!
I, too, Elizabeth, can't do caffeine anymore, it makes me sooo sick, after having been the Caffeine, "I'll take mine fully leaded thank you very much and some chocolate on the side"--kind of girl. I have held on to some of these attatchments when my little one was so acutely needy (had a trach, g-tube)and I couldn't bare to give up anymore...but I feel the Blessed Mother, being the perfect Mother that she is, whispering to me to let go..it is okay now, I don't need those "things" after all. I thank HER for that Grace.
