I'm not a coffee drinker, but very interesting subject. Caribou Coffee is headquartered out of Minnesota.

I did a search for anything concerning out there against Caribou and came up with something interesting. Apparantly it's possible there are terrorism ties. Here's some information from Urban Legends.

Here's some other information from boycottwatch.org.

I'm not sure what to make of it all, but I was surprised that there was an islamic tie-in. Anyone know anything else?

Thanks for posting this information, Elizabeth. I have to admit, we were doing more Dunkin Donuts Coffee because of the convenience (drive thru) in our area, but I LOVE the cinnamon scones from Starbucks and a cafe mocha. But my waistline will thank me for the boycott.

I remember visiting dh downtown...there are Dean and Delucca, Cosi, Soho...other coffee chains that were just as tasty to me.

I found an interesting tool. I typed in coffee, Washington DC in Google and it found all local results for coffee houses. So I tried Manassas, VA and I got another helpful list of coffee houses nearby...some I hadn't realized. I can't do tea...except some herbal. Black tea does not agree with me at all. So I'll keep searching for substitutes. But I can brew okay coffee at home, and we should be watching our pennies anyway, since GAS prices are taking a chunk out of our budget!

Perhaps someone could start a Christian coffee chain??

Okay, so I guess I'm supposed to give up coffee altogether...not sure who's having a harder time with this, me or my 16 yos.

This is so sad. I love Carmel Macchiatos. We even have a drive through Starbucks nearby and dh has one on the corner of the street where he works. He has a Starbucks debit card that he uses daily. I IM'd him the article and we are on board with the boycott.

It isn't a stretch though to believe that they are such big promoters of "alternative lifestyles" I have never seen a Starbucks employee, either here or in Manhattan, that I wouldn't be afraid of on a dark street. Tatooed and pierced or very effeminate. It's just sad. The most disturbing thing is the willingness to expose this to children and the promotion of it toward children. Horrible.

Keep in mind that a boycott of Target changed their donation policy several years ago so Elizabeth maybe your little movement will grow into something that changes policy.

Here's hoping

i looked at the referenced articles and it didn't appear to me that Caribou is still associated with this guy who had the terrorist ties.

Elizabeth.....they have machines that do it all for you    Just pour in the beans and it grinds, brews and stores it in a carafe. Now if only my Mr. Coffee would break down

Does anyone have Peaberry's? That's what I prefer. We don't do Starbucks much just because it's out of the budget and the copycat drinks made from home are pretty good.

From now on if I want to get out for my coffee, I'm using the neighborhood spot. For home brew I'll try to order African or S. American free trade.

I always think of you when I make it.

Hope you're getting some sleep, btw. I wanted to post (lost the thread) that a pacifier (shh don't tell LLL HQ) changed my life with baby number five.

Sorry to add more "fuel to the fire" but I'm not sure if anyone's seen this on Starbucks.

Hi Everyone!

All I can say is Wow! I had no idea! I mean, I never figured that Starbucks was a conservative place, but I never knew that they were so involved with promoting these kinds of causes. Plus, I agree with many of you who stated that it IS a big expense to put all that money toward coffee. I think I'd better learn how to make some of my own......

God bless,

Jenny

Thanks for this info. I love coffee, but my only Starbucks purchase was those delicious Frappacinos in the bottles. No more!

I actually saw one of these cups! Imagine my surprise when I pop into Manhattan to meet Dh for dinner. I go up to his office and am sitting there waiting for him to finish up. My eyes stray to the coffee cup on his desk and thatwas the message. "Honey, what in the name of all that is holy is this?" says I. He reads it and tosses it in disgust. It was a few days later that Elizabeth started this thread. Very timely Elizabeth - thank you. Our shock was still fresh in our minds.

I noticed those "The Way I See It" sayings on my cup before this thread and was commenting to dh on how liberal they were...my coffee wasn't sitting too well reading those. I wasn't too surprised to connect the dots with Elizabeth's email...but *sigh* I miss my mocha.

I contacted Starbucks corporate office and provided them with a link to this thread so that they can gain some insight to the rest of their customers. If you've been quiet so far, chime in! Even a "me too!" is a voice.

Elizabeth --

Thanks for contacting Starbucks Corporate.

We've already switched and I email the links to the articles to various others I know and love. I made my SIL in Colorado rather upset when she realized she and I (when I come visit) can no longer go have a MochaMit Frappocino! Ah well, by the time I get out there next summer, maybe she'll have found a new coffee hangout for us battle-scarred homeschooling moms -- Lollycup anyone?

Blessings,

What's Lollycup, Mary? BTW, how is everyone doing with withdrawal? My teenaged boys are getting pretty creative with the blender, some ice, organic milk, Wolfgang Puck coffee and various sweeteners. There is life after Starbucks...I miss it though.

I found a Peaberry's very nearby and I also just realized that the Cheesecake bakery down the street is a coffee hangout

No more Starbuck's for me and my family when we visit Barnes and Nobles... no more double chocolate chip frappucino... no more brownies and cupcakes for the babies...

Vanilla latte and ice in the blender was pretty good yesterday morning, so it won't be so bad after all.
