Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm back...

Don't forget to consider a collection of around the world with the saints - extra holy cards make nice additions to the boxes.

I'm not ashamed to say that I sometimes cut up books for their pictures. But...before you gasp in disbelief - let me explain. I often go to friends of the library booksales - the ones you can pick up a book for a nickel or a dime. Often, the cover is in bad shape, but many books - reference and picture books esp - have great pictures in them for my continent boxes. For a dime, I can grab a book, cut out the pictures, laminate and add them to the box.

And, I love using library card pockets for containing smallish collections in the boxes. You can buy them, or you can make your own using these free templates. These are the greatest...and dare I say it...you can match!

...ok...must get back to the housecleaning...must.stop.thinking.about.inspiring.continent .boxes...

Colleen,
Has anyone had any more ideas about the passports? The link Kacky posted earlier isn't working for me...

Did anyone actually follow through with the passports? Did you use the little Dover publication stickers or something else?

I like the passport idea and am still pondering on that and how it might work...

Candace

We will be ordering ours from here

Marilyn, THANKs!! Those look perfect! And, I searched, they also have a passport with world stickers which will be perfect for this study!!

Jennifer, I'm in the middle of baking bread and granola and keep popping back on here as I put something in the oven or check on something.

This could get addicting!!

We are Baptist...and I had the thought (from what some of you mentioned) to learn about missionaries from around the world.

I already own the books Missionary Stories with the Millers by Mildred Martin and Hero Tales by Dave and Neta Jackson, both of these books have stories of missionaries from around the world!! Some of them are more famous: Amy Carmichael, Martin Luther, Hudson Taylor, but many of them are lesser known. I'm excited to actually read these stories that I've had for awhile but not used!

Candace - Sonlight, Our Father's World and Winterpromise all have good ideas for Protestant missionary stories for different countries.

As for housework - I did all mine yesterday - convinced I was going into labor - so now have a free day for school planning

Last question for today, I think!

Colleen, are you one of the ladies working on this study for Serendipity?

I know you ladies get asked this a LOT. And I'm not asking to pester or pressure you in ANY WAY! (aren't you about to have a new little blessing?) But do you have an idea of when the first post will be?

It looks like Serendipity is starting with Africa. Will they post one continent at a time throughout the year? I know you ladies are doing all you can to get your plans made...I'm just mostly curious b/c I'm making lists and plans and more lists...and just thought I'd see if there was a "general" time frame for when Africa notes would be released. :)

Thanks...from a very grateful Serendipity lurker!!

ETA: I suppose I could have just sent this as a PM to Colleen, but since I already posted I'll leave it here...I can pm later if no one sees this question. :)

Candace--Africa is first and will be ready to go very soon. We hope to be fully planned for the first half of the year shortly, but publication is dependent on real life and there is a baby coming in 10 days. But you should have a good idea during the summer of the layout of most of the year.

Candace - I am sorry I posted the link to the state flags rather than the world ones. I have corrected the link.

The general timeframe for Africa to be published is Monday. I hope. We're planning six weeks for Africa. Then, we're planning on studying Asia, beginning with t a focus on the Holy Land. That careful study will take us to advent. We'll do Christmas stories from around the world. Then, after Christmas, we'll study India and China and Japan, to finish up Asia. After that, Oceania and Australia, I think. We hope to have the entire first semester up before July. And then to have the other components of Asia completed before September...your prayers are most appreciated. If you are planning to use Serendipity, the best thing you can do to plan right now is pray we have the time to share it with you!

I made plans to study the continents last year, and didn't get too far with them. I plan to continue where I left off, and I look forward to seeing what all of you Serendipity ladies have in store.    Thanks so much! I'll be praying!

Just saw the plans for Africa, too. They look wonderful! I had never heard of A Child's Geography. It looks awesome! Thanks to all the Serendipity ladies!

I have an organizational question about your continent boxes.

I have printee off various cards I have found online (for free at this point, after purchasing geography books, passports, I have to find what i can for free!!)

Anyway, for each continent I will have various "types" of cards - maps, animal cards, landforms, etc.

Do you just throw them all in the box? Or do you somehow separate them? Put all the animal cards into a baggie/container? Landforms separately?

Just curious, I know I can do as I please, but I thought I'd see if you ladies had a good thought for that...or if I'm organizing TOO much! LOL!!

Oh, and in case this hasn't been posted...HSS has some free Africa resources. (there are animal cards and a few landform type cards)

Africa Resources

And this page has animal studies, book lists and such for Africa.

I like using library pockets for collections on paper. One of my summer projects is to sew some simple little drawstring bags for my animal collections...but we'll see how the summer goes!

Jennifer, thanks! I wasn't trying to ignore your library card/pocket idea! I did read that earlier...

I guess in my mind I'm thinking that I have too many cards for a pocket...not sure, I'll have to keep pondering that.

I do love the idea of a simple drawstring bag.

Thank you!!
