Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My uncle gifted us a subscription and the first installment came today. Am I just supposed to give these to the kids, or am I supposed to do some kind of lesson with them? How do you use these?

Ooooooh. Good question. I was wondering the same thing! My daughter has a gift subscription and so far, we have just been giving it to her at Mass but I think there is much more there.

I go over the booklets on Wednesday with the kids so they know what to expect at Mass. I know we could do more, but that is all I have time for lately!

We treat them as "special" so the kids don't get their hands on them until Sunday. The little ones once got the package and opened them and did all the activities for the month!

On Sunday we come to Church early so while we're waiting for Mass to start they take turns reading it (or having it read to them). The 8-yo then gets it while the Mass is going on since the 10-yo can pay attention quite well to the reading without having it in front of him, and the 5-yo by that time is interested in other things. After the Mass sometimes they do the activity at home. If only one person wants to do it, then they get to do it on the book itself, otherwise we make copies. But this has only happened twice in 6 months so I don't worry about copyright violation. All our old issues are kept in a shelf, in case anyone wants to go back and reread or do the activities -- a lot of them didn't get done. But the fact that they read it cover to cover makes them so worth it.

I was inspired by this (and many other posts ) from Dawn on how she uses them.

We read the gospel for the coming Sunday on Thurday am at breakfast, then Lisa Reno's comments and finally Brother Goodventure. We will do any activities we are interested in sometime that week. When we are waiting for Mass to start ds will usually read any saint stories. I love the contemplate articles with art so we do them together.

We've listened to Magnifikid Minute (an mp3 podcast) off and on... mostly when mom remembers to download it

(better go download this week's before I forget again... btw, the mp3s are only posted AFTER the Sunday liturgy so we use them as a "follow up" of sorts.)

Do any of you find the kids uninterested in the current issue if you show it to them before Sunday Mass? (That is my concern with my 5 yo. He follows along every week but if he's already seen it, may be less likely to do so.)

Thanks for a good thread,
Erica
