Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have already made the decision to homeschool, so obviously we talk about this with Puggle (3 yo). We're part of a co-op/playgroup with other homeschooling families, so we do have people he knows who are homeschooled. But my brother's partner is a school teacher, as were my father, and my mother-in-law. They all know that we are intending to homeschool, but school is so 'normal' to them, that it gets mentioned with regards to Puggle's future (I don't think this is intentional, more that they don't really understand how it could be otherwise... a separate issue!)

School is also very present in a number of the books he has been read. Given how successful books have been with other 'issues', I thought it would be a good idea to read some books to him that inculed homeschooled children—if such books exist.

Can anyone suggest something appropriate?

I can't think of picture books that specifically address homeschooling but what I did when we first started homeschooling (my oldest was in 1st grade) was to stay away, for awhile anyway, from books that were specifically about adjusting to school, etc. At the same time, I pointed out benefits to homeschooling every chance I got.

At one time, I thought about writing a series of picture books about a homeschooled child, but I haven't gotten around to it yet ....

There's this book available at Amazon. We used to own it. I thought it was kind of twaddly, but my girls enjoyed it.

My Mommy, My Teacher was written and illustrated by a homeschooled girl for homeschoolers. It looks quite nice, love the timeline illustration.

Thanks for these suggestions... I'll check them out.

I'm not necessarily thinking of books focused on homeschooling, but also ones where 'co-incindentally' the characters are homeschooled.

We love the book "The Seven Silly Eaters" by Mary Ann Hoberman. It is not a book about homeschooling and it does not say the children in the book are homeschooled - but, it looks like they are and no mention is ever made of school. It is about a family of seven children who each only want to eat one thing. In the end, the family finds a clever way to make everyone happy. It is written in rhyme and the illustrations are very rich. It is also a very positive portrayal of large families.

Hope this helps.

Just have to say, my oldest ds received Kandoo Kangaroo for his 4th birthday last month, and he and his brother just love it! It has really given us a starting point for talking about how we will be learning at home and how mommy is his teacher. He loves that I will be his teacher.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Moosetracks is a chapter book about a boy who incidentally is homeschooled. It's for much older kids. It dives into the issues of poaching, obeying one's parents and blended families. It's been a while since we listened to the audio version, but I do remember my son who was probably 7 at the time, enjoying the audio book.
