Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We just spent a month studying Japan, so I wanted to share some of our favorite picture books on the topic:
My Japan

Yoko Writes Her Name
Rosemary Wells has several Yoko books about a Japanese girl living in America and sharing Japanese customs- my dc got a kick out of these

Japan in Colors

How My Parents Learned to Eat
Of course, anything by Allen Say is great for studying Japan. "The Bicycle Man" was another favorite.

A Pair of Red Clogs
Just be warned: your kids will want to play the weather telling game after reading this

The Way We Do It In Japan

Hiromi's Hands
Great story- true- about the first female sushi chef in NY

Carp For Kimiko

We studied Japan as well (not in depth - we're doing a new country each week), but we also enjoyed My Japan and Japan in Colors :).

Our library just had a homeschool day with a focus on Japan. The kids made origami, tasted tea, browsed coins, clogs, kimono, hats, and parasol, plus if they found Japan on the map they were able to play the gong. The book read was Little Oh (a little origami girl comes to life). There's also a unit study for the book at Homeschool Share.
