Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For music this year we are going around the world and investigating different folk music. Of course, I started the easy way with American folk music. Now we are ready to move on--to Africa.

Does anyone have any favorite resources as we head off on our adventure?
Thanks!!

Anything by Ladysmith Black Mambazo- a group from South Africa.

Your children might enjoy their CD Gift of the Tortoise, which incorporates beautiful music into a South African folktale. It is captivating. Your library may even have a copy.

Try Putumayo's African CDs. We love Putumayo Kids African Playground. Sorry I don't have time to link, but Amazon has quite a selection of Putumayo stuff.

Yes, Putumayo is who I was going to recommend. They have general "World Music" as well as CDs specifically for children. You can listen to clips of the songs on the site.

Thanks so much ladies!!    I think by discovering this site, I have just provided music enrichment for the rest of the schoolyear!

Egypt is in Africa:-) I really like Hossam Ramzy's tabla music—I tend to listen to 'Sabla Tolo' and 'Gypsies of the Nile'.
