Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I want to get this house in order. So, my goal is one room a month (unless we do end up moving, then I'll have to put the engine into overdrive) I'll start once the tree is down (after 1/6..)

Now... where do I start??

Start small-

Set your timer for 15 minutes a day to spend in a room. It adds up!

Start in the room that you spend that most time in; the kitchen, learning room, or living room? That would be my strategy

I usually start with what people see when they walk in my front door and then move outwards in concentric circles until I get to the peripheries. So in my house it would start with the living room, then move to the kitchen, then the hallway and guest bathroom, and then upstairs to the loft.

I'm starting a house cleaning after Epiphany too!

kitchen is where I start, because it's the heart of our home. If my kitchen is in shambles, I literally can't think.

I have a SMALL kitchen for this family, with little storage and very little counter space... what counter space I have has a toaster oven (used daily) and a coffee pot (used MORE than daily ) and a dish rack!! then there's the mail, and clutter the kids leave around!! It's enough to make your eyeballs pop out!

Leila over at Like Mother Like Daughter recommends starting with the Master Bedroom. Your marriage is the core of your family life, and the master bedroom is the space set apart to honor and sanctify your marriage. Her blog post is worth a read, even if you decide to start somewhere else.

We are working on getting the house back in order too.

The master bedroom is already pretty much done. Our youngest still sleeps in our room, so life goes much smoother when that room is well ordered. : )

My main focus now is my son's bedroom. We have been going through the toys deciding which to keep and which to donate. I'm thinking of rearranging the furniture in there as well. I just feel like it could be better organized. Are there any posts/threads on organizing the children's bedrooms?

What's great is that once you get one room done, its spills over to the others and they HAVE to be done. Then, the little ones come and trash the work you've already done....

My problem is that I no sooner finish a room and start the second when the first one is in a shambles again.
With 5 kids ages 2-7 I just haven't been able to keep up with it.

Good luck!
