Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Everyone! We start our first day of CM school tomorrow and I am so excited. This is what I plan to do:

Morning

Have everyone snuggle up on the sofa and read a story from a children's Bible story book and discuss the questions orally

Play a game or two of Chutes and Ladders - family - This should be an easy oral narration of the numbers 1-10.

For language arts we will begin penmanship - one lesson with the oral narration brought about in discussion of what the lesson goal is.

Then for copywork we will choose a poem together from the "Robert Louis Stevenson" book and read the poem aloud. Will start copying it tomorrow. Oral narration

Read aloud from a simple phonics reader (already knows the alphabet)

For science I will read from "Pagoo" and we will look carefully at the pictures - with a oral narration brought up in the natural discuss of the book as we read

Then it's on to history with "Granny Han's Breakfast" and an oral narration (I'll type) and illustration. A sentence or two is all I am hoping for.

Afternoon

Outside play till dinner!

Bedtime read-aloud will be "Family Under the Bridge"

Oh, one question - Is there a list of living math books somewhere that could be used as a resource?

Anya,
I have a huge list of living math books for little ones linked here. Read all the way down to the bottom of the post.

A brief update on how our first day went:

Our day began with the sun shining and the children waking up especially happy and eager. Bible reading included lots of lively child-led discussions. Then our game of chutes and ladders went into overtime. I hadn't anticipated all the side conversations and gentle debates. We ended up only playing one game. Penmanship, well , we never did do it today. LOL. We read our poem for the first time today and enjoyed it "as is". We'll start copying and discussing it tomorrow. Stopped for a snack and a break as everyone was beginning to get restless. Read from phonic reader. Got a thumps-up for story. Then we read from history book and narrated-didn't illustrate it like planned, but I was happy with the well done narration. No Pagoo today either. The day just begged for outdoor play. Lunch time and then outside we went. At bedtime I read the first chapter of Family Under the Bridge.
