We love our friction pens and markers here, but I seem to recall reading that the ink will reappear in the long term.

I know that friction ink, when erased, will reappear if exposed to heat. That's a fun science experiment: write your secret message, erase it, then expose it to heat and watch it magically reappear.

My concern here is using the highlighters in books. I really don't like books that have highlighter markings in them, but it's nice to be able to highlight and then erase. I haven't been using these pens for years, so I don't know if they markings will reappear later on.

Anone have any idea?

We've been using them for about 3 years now. We've never had ink re-appear once it's erased. We use the FriXion pens, highlighters and markers.

When using the highlighter, I haven't ever had an occasion of the highlighter re-appearing after erasing, but I don't highlight in books...just because I don't allow any writing except pencil writing in books. I typically only highlight on papers of various kinds.

If you expose the erased ink to heat it will re-appear, so if you highlighted in a book, erased it, and then put that book in a hot attic or something - yes, it will come back.

I will add that a key to a good erase with these pens is that the ink must be completely dry for a good erase. If you attempt to erase before the ink is dry, it will smudge and at that point it IS hard to completely erase.

I would like to highlight in my RIghtstart Teacher's Manual, since it is scripted- that would make it easier for me to zero on the key points during a lesson. I am just reluctant to do it if I can't erase it.

But since I don't anticipate storing the TMs in a hot attic, I might go for it.
I wonder if the highlighting would come back in color or just as a gray area?

Anyway, thanks for your input, Jen.   I think that extreme cold will also make the writing reappear... have to check on that.

I've heard of removable highlighter tape (amazon had some when I've searched). I've never actually used it but it might be an alternative way to temporarily highlight.

I like the idea of the tape.. I could use it in my RS manual as well as in my
"How To Teach Shakespeare" book to highlight what I need to say.
Then I would have no worries at all about things reappearing.

I've purchased at our Staples before, but the highlighters and markers I bought at Amazon. Now, I buy them all through Amazon just because it's easier.

I'm having such troubles with my Frixon erasable pens. They don't erase every well and I can still see what was written. They smudge even when I go back and erase weeks later (changing lesson plans). They also leave a film of something on the paper after erasing that makes it hard to write over. They are also leaving behind stuff (like when you erase a pencil) but when I go to wipe it off the paper it sticks and won't come off. What I'm doing wrong? Did I get a defective set? One also cracked. We've only had them about a month.

My 13 yo is loving these though. I wanted to purchase him his own set for a stocking stuffer. I like these better than using pencil and want to make them work. Any recommendations for a better set?

I'm starting to wonder if it's my planner. I was using them yesterday on just some regular paper and didn't have any problems. Maybe the finish of the planner is the problem.
