Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'd like to get some structure & routine in our days before I begin to add school assignments. My children at home will be 1st, 3rd, 4th and 7th grades. I'd love suggestions.
Thank you!

I have K, 2, 4, 8, and 10th graders. My chore chart might be a little different than you have in mind, but I thought I'd share.

I have a very detailed list of what needs to be cleaned for each room of our house. The list is broken up into daily, weekly, and monthly chores. On the 1st day of each month, the children are assigned a room, and they are responsible for all the chores for their assigned rooms until the end of the month. I keep this posted on the fridge, so that I can glance at it and see who needs to do what.

I usually have to help the K'er with her chores, but even she is surprisingly helpful with a detailed list.

During the school months, they do their daily chores first thing in the morning, and a quick touch-up around 3:00. In the summer, we are more relaxed and I just say they need to be done sometime during the day. The weekly chores are done Saturday morning. The monthly chores are done the first Saturday morning of the month.

Hi--
Great question! I like reading the responses.
I implemented a chore chart that has been tweaked every now and again. My kids are going into 9th, 8th, 6th, 2nd and pre-k (he's the helper). I assign myself the same chores as my 2nd grader so he can have help if/as needed. Per week they are assigned one room of the house (a common living area or bathroom), one task (dishes, laundry, cooking, trash), and one after dinner chore (clean stove top, clean table, sweep floors). We have two cleaning breaks each day--right before lunch and right before dinner--so the house doesn't look like a disaster all day! They also feed or help feed the dog week each month as well.

On Saturday we have our house blessing (Flylady term). Each person cleans up, vacuumes and dusts the room they are responsible for as well as sharing chores for their own bedroom.

:) Mary
