Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am really struggling with curric. I want to make my own, but I want to be able
to use it - or most of it - for all of my kids. I like the idea of basing it
around a period of history and then using lots of literature for reading. Maybe
using the literature to spring writing off of and vocabulary and grammr. Maybe
even learning about science from that era too, not sure. The problem is, I have
this great idea but when I try to get it all together I fail miserably.

I have tried doing a separate curric for each kid (13 & 11)and now I am adding
in Kinder this year (and have a preschooler as well)and I fell like I just am
burnt our and don't have enough time during the day to help or teach every
child.

So I would love to hear how those who have managed to make their own curic and
those who use a multi level approach to teach their family. Thanks!!

Have you checked out the Free Curriculum Guide at Simply Charlotte Mason? I found that very helpful - for history, especially. We used Story of the World as a spine and then filled in with books recommended in this guide.

I'm not sure on the other subjects. We're combining science by all using NOEO this year, but I can't give a solid recommendation because we haven't used it before.

Hi there! My kids are still young (3rd, 1st, preschool, and toddler), so our learning is rather short compared to the other ages. I do combine the two older students in history, science, art, faith, and other readings but keep them separate for language and math (I have one that's beginning reading and one that is a steady reader).

I go with the grade level of the oldest for combined subjects and pick something, then I just have the younger tag along at his level. Right now we are following a combination of Mater Amabilis, Charlotte Mason Help, and Ambleside Online for our readings. Another source for history based learning is Connecting With History, a Catholic approach to history. Another site that has always intrigued me is Moving Beyond the Page. They are secular, but use a books approach to their curriculum.

I like to browse curriculum sites for their book lists!

I hope some of these links can help. The other wonderful ladies further along this path will have some wonderful insights. I'm just no there yet!

Welcome!
