Well, I need some ideas. We're going to be making a home office out of an unused room in our house. It's on the same floor as our kitchen area, where we usually do our school work.
During the next two weeks I'm cleaning the floor (we pulled the nasty carpet out and it's plain concrete now.)Priming, and painting the walls and then we will put the furniture together and move in to use it.
Right now I'm dreaming of an area where the kids can use a computer to do their math for next year, where we can display the dioramas they have made, where we can have a copy machine I can easily use, room for quiet where I can write or blog when I need to, budget, plan meals, keep important things away from pets and toddlers...have an official "homeschooling space" for the teacher (me) in this house.
So if you have a space like this, or if you dream of one, what kind of organizational ideas stand out for you? I'm thinking craft/project, budgeting/food planning/teaching/writing space/ computer space for the kids school will be happening there.
Organizing is always a problem for me. I just need some good ideas to keep it all organized, as it is most of my stuff is all spread out all over the house. It will be so much better to pull it all together.
Thank you all in advance!

What type of organization works best for you? are you a file it away so i can get it when I want it or an out of sight, out of mind person?
For instance I can use a file cabinet for things that are in for longer term storage, so that I can find it when I need it.. but I can't put bills to be paid into a folder in there.. even a special one at the front.. it's in the drawer and I don't think of it.. bills go on my bulletin board in plain site so I can see them and think "oh yeah, gotta do that".
If the copy machine isn't use everyday but you want it easy to use at need.. I would look at a small rolling cabinet that it can sit on top of.. have supplies in the cupbard and it could go under a desk or set of shelves or table or whatever when not in use but very easy to pull out to use.

I usually want things put away so I can find them again. It's very uncomfortable around here if something "disappears" on me.
I think I tend to think of places and spaces rather than lists...I'm also a add mom and "organizing" is always a challenge.
Corkboards are a good idea. So is a rolling cabinet.

Here's a really clever idea: Office in a Chest
You could even use an old cedar chest. A cushion on top could serve as extra seating.
We use old pew hymnal racks as wall pockets (bought by the lot dirt cheap on ebay, from a church salvage dealer who didn't consider them a big ticket item). Add pretty file folders and they become office art.
In one room of our house we have an old an diningroom buffet we use for storage ~ we cut the legs off to make it seat height ~ with two long drawers and 2 side cabinets it's ideal for storing games and lots of items that tend to look cluttered on open shelves.
In our Family Command Center area we have two tall cabinets on either side of our desk that serve as storage for most of our office, mail and art supplies. We keep our unpaid bills attached to a binder clip, hanging from a cuphook inside the cabinet door, where we can always keep track of whatever still needs to be paid. Paid bill receipts are placed in an accordion file inside the same cabinet. A printout of all account numbers, web addresses, passwords, etc. is kept in a page protector in the front of the accordion file for paid bills, while a duplicate strip of the printout is taped at the top of each section for individual bills and accounts ~ this saves an amazing amount of time searching for information my foggy old brain tends to forget!
We have a several family members with ADD, so I can really relate to your desire for organization. Hope you enjoy putting your new office together!
ETA: I didn't remember where I had originally seen the Office in a Chest idea, so I googled it. I just discovered it's on 4Real's Pinterest page for Planning & Ordering Our Days!

That is a great idea. I also like the hymnal hangers idea. I picked out a pretty color today, and the taping is done.
