I used to use that white sticky stuff but it just doesn't seem to hold. I went to tacks (reluctantly) but of course it leaves holes in the walls even if small. What's your favorite product for hanging things on the wall without damaging the surface and yet being durable to stay put?
Second, I bought a curtain rod to hang over each window in the school room and I thought I could hang some maps from it as my "window treatments". But all the drapery clips have "teeth" and I'm afraid it'll damage the art/posters. I don't know how to utilize clothespins b/c the rod is bigger than thin wire. I still thought about stringing a wire from the rod (so I could use clothespins) but thought may be someone else here had any other ideas. ?
Thanks!

I use tacky stuff that is blue. I think its made by Elmer's? Ah yes, here it is. It works really well. For heavier or laminated posters I use the small command strips on the top corners and poster tack on the bottom.
Perhaps you could line the top portion of your maps with bias tape before clipping with drapery hooks, but I'm not sure if they wouldn't slip on the curtain rod and not hold in place well enough to hold the print taught.

For your curtains.. if you got fairly inexpensive tab top curtains/valances.. then you could clip your maps to the fabric rather than the rod.

You might try clear contact paper or mailing tape as a border along the top of your maps, then hang them from your curtain rods with either medium or large binder clips, or drapery clips.
We've had very good results with 3M Command Strips for Posters ~ they're very strong, yet come off drywall better than most other adhesive products intended for that purpose.
Another idea I've seen is to use a rolling window shade and attach the poster or map directly to the shade.

Love that! I did something similar, but super quick and easy in my daughter's room. Simply a length of ribbon with bows tied on the end. I hooked the ends to drapery rings and hung the rings on nails. She hangs her artwork with clothespins.

Very cute idea, Theresa.
We have one of these for posters and maps - swap them out as needed for whatever we are working on. I love it. It is mounted to the wall so it would leave marks if removed. Grip a Strip Display Rail.
My daughter has one of the IKEA wire rods. It is originally a curtain rod, but I've seen displays of it being used for hanging all kinds of things. It comes with clips for hanging. It is also wall mounted. DIGNITET Curtain Wire.
Here is an example of it being used to hang pictures.

I may just go with the drapery hooks for ease and not leave the posters up for long since I've realized it will block quite a bit of light coming in so I'll just use them for specific purposes. If I can get back to Ikea I might buy that wire and then just use it for kid's art and it won't hang down so low to block light into the room. I could try the pull down shade idea too.
I've tried the white putty similar to the blue and it just doesn't seem to hold up over time and my posters start falling. Could be b/c it's textured walls. ?
I bought some of these Scotch restickable tabs and they seem to work great. The problem? THEY STINK! Literally...the fumes off these little bitty tabs is so strong I think I'll have to try again.
Servant, are your poster strips clear? Did they have an odor?
I think I'm overthinking all this!

Kathryn, the strips we used are made by 3M and are called Command Poster Strips. The way they're designed, you may very well be able to use them with your curtain rod. I've never noticed any odor coming from them. They are white, with a rounded tab at one end, which doesn't adhere with the rest of the strip, making it possible to grip and stretch the tab for easy and safe removal from whatever surface you have attached it to. We've used the small size for some good sized LOTR map posters (perhaps 3 ft. x 3 ft.), if that gives you some idea of what they'll support.

Oh, my!
Aren't you all wonderful.
Personally, I staple them up.
Fast and easy.
Fix the holes later.
I was a bit more discerning until I lived in a house with CONCRETE walls for 5+ years.
Hanging anything took masonry tools. A nightmare!
Off to staple our new timeline up in the schoolroom
