Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

First things first...Thank you! This website has been a blessing to me as I embark on our journey into Home Schooling!

Can anyone offer a very basic idea of how to organize a small space for Homeschooling 1- 2nd grade girl and a 5 year old, tag-along, busy little brother. Rachel is 7 and natural untidy. So, my plan needs to prevent, not invite, clutter. She now has a desk w/drawers and a small bookcase in her room. I am planning to have our "school" area in the living room and only have room for 1 bookcase or some similar piece of furniture. I plan to have DH construct an A-frame folding stand, with a small ledge. I'll put a white board on 1 side and a cork board on the other, the whole thing can wheel into the coat closet. Found the boards at the Restore for $10, woohoo!
It sounds like I'll need LOTS of binders. I have math manipulatives, science gear ,etc stored in a closed bookcase.   But, otherwise I am at a lose to know where to start. If anyone can suggest a basic "getting started" layout...I would be greatful! The organization is overwhelming me more than anything else.
Thanks to all!

Hello momin MD and welcome to the forum! It sounds like you're already on your way to a good start with your great deal on a white board and cork board ~ especially with your clever idea for storing them! You might find organizing ideas in the recent "Storing Scool Books? thread. There were some great links to several types of storage containers or various storage ideas there!

We've always just used what we had; including cutting down an old buffet to seat height or using the bottom section of an old china cabinet. We also rely on garage sale or thrift store finds. You really don't have to spend a lot or go overboard, especially during the early years. Things will just develop as you go along!

We've homeschooled for more than 20 years and I only recently discovered how helpful magazine holders are for storing books, notebooks, folders and such. It sounds like you are quite blessed in having a closed bookcase, especially with math manipulatives, science gear and such.

Another recent thread has links to various schoolroom pictures. Although you may not be looking for a schoolroom look for your livingroom, you may find clever ideas for storing and organizing things in a way that you find pleasing. Most of the homeschool families I know tend to have an overflow of the homeschool atmosphere throughout their home, since it really is a way of life!

Enjoy the journey!
