It is time for me to renew my Mater Et Magistra subscription, and I am considering changing to an electronic subscription.

The pros for me would be not having more printed materials around the house to organize or store, plus the cost is considerably less.

The cons: I don't particularly enjoy reading books on the computer. Also, I am trying to cut back on my on-line time.

Any thoughts?

Never tried subscriptions online. But one of the things I like about the few magazines that we get is that I can go elsewhere and not be stuck on the computer.

Wonder if it's something that could go on an e-reader (Kindle, Nook etc).. then it would be a rather neat option if you had one of those.

I don't have any electronic subscriptions, but if I could read it on my Kindle I would get it.

I've already e-mailed Magnificat to see if they have a Kindle version in the works. I think I would like that.

I wouldn't sign up for an online subscription UNLESS I could read them on an e-reader. Like you mentioned, Melinda, trying to reduce online time and reading on the computer tires me. I don't have the comprehension like I do for printed materials.

But I don't have an e-reader yet. So right now it wouldn't help me.

Of your particular example, I know electronic versions would help mater et magistra, but I love the little magazine in print. Now what would work for me, since m et m is such a useful tool, with booklists and unit studies, is to have files that I could manipulate -- something I could print out if I needed, have a list that I could alphabetize or arrange by periods or whatever to use at the library or book hunting.

I would have no problem having a .pdf file of the magazine so I could print (and staple) myself and have on file, but then some Word .docs for some of the useful information would be an added bonus.

I've never tried, but I voted no. I have a hard time reading something like a magazine/book on line. I like making notes sometimes right on the material. And like Jenn, I really like my little MetM to hold. I bought the pdf version of the Shakespeare edition; I printed in color and bound it. I prefered this to reading it on the computer, but I wouldn't want to do this with every one.

I like the size of the e-versions of Mater et Magistra, but I did subscribe and enjoy recieving it and holding. But the larger size on the computer is appealing.

I went back and looked at the subscription page for M&M, and it says:

The same magazine delivered as a digital pdf that you can read on your computer or electronic reader.

If it is delivered as a pdf file, then pages could be printed out, right?

I subscribed to The Catholic Herald for my dh. He used to buy it at church every Sunday and the online version was a lot less expensive than the paper. He has never read it. I have a years worth of subscriptions online and untouched.

I subscribe to m et m and I like receiving my copy in the mail. I like having the paper in my hands where I can read it at my leisure, write on it, or if I choose to, tear it into units (which of course, I don't). I do have an e-reader because living overseas, it is sometimes easier (and less expensive) to obtain copies of books.

Keeping that in mind, however, I like my paper. I think there is something to be said for the bound book. But then again, when it comes to moving, there is something to be said for e-books!

I voted yes. Anything to cut down on the paper clutter. I do have an e-reader, though, which makes a difference. I can curl up with it somewhere, and not be tied to my desk. I do not like to read on the computer.

I read my Magnificat on my iphone.
I actually like it better than having it in print.
But, honestly - this is unusual for me.
I like to hold it, write in it, tear out a picture and so on with my magazines.
Sometimes, I wonder how much longer we will even be able to buy print magazines. It makes so much more sense for the publishers to make it an ebook (or whatever).

Most of mine are online subscriptions. I can read them on my Nook. I take that every where with me.

If I really want to save something, or need a snippet, I just print out what I want.

I am throwing out/donating way too much paper products to justify bringing any more into my house.

I prefer print magazines. I love being able to grab them and go, especially when we have to sit in doctor's offices. I tend to bend over pages and make messy notes on the paper. I love highlighting, and it's just not the same without a marker

. But, I can see the advantage of not having all of the paper clutter. I have to sort through my stacks on a regular basis.

I prefer paper magazines for all the reasons already mentioned. But, living in Canada, one does get tired of paying the extra shipping costs and the extra time in delivery so I now subscribe for the electronic version whenever possible. Cheaper rates and no delay in arrival.
