With all the new year planning, I don't want to finish up our current year! All the new books, new ideas, are making me think our current year is boring. How do you push through till the end?

Well, we had this week left as our last week of school. But it's fizzled out now. We're all pretty much burnt out at this point and just done with this year. We start back August 1, so we all can use the break.

If you *want* to finish, then here's some advice: we celebrate every subject that gets finished for the year. Oh... and I also threaten no camps with Daddy! That keeps the boys motivated even if their mom isn't.
If you don't want to finish, just think about how I don't recall finishing many books in school.

As we finish up items, I am not replacing them with extra work.
For instance, my dd finished her CHC writing book, so that is dropped form her schedule. My ds finished his grammar book, so that is gone from the schedule as well. We finished narrating Faith and Life for the year last week, so that work is done, also. That is making our school days a bit shorter and lighter as we approach the end.
We have only two weeks left, so I am going to be looking at how to finish up some loose ends in other areas. We might have a Great HIstory Day to blaze to the end of Story of The World, or we might have an Art Pac day to work on projects. That gives us some variety here at then end.

Same as Melinda...we just kind of complete things and then fizzle out slowly.....If we don't fizzle by the end of May, I announce we are going into "Summer", which is basically math facts, games, and review and lots of reading!
I don't recall finishing ANY books in school, either, Maryan. So that's a guilt I can get rid of..phew!

I'm like Caroline and Melinda, we finish as we complete things BUT I did make a big chart with all the books and projects and workbooks that are quickly coming to the end with number of pages left and such. The kids are drawing a line through page numbers and checking off the projects, this way they can physically see what is left.
That all being said, we will be doing Math all summer with only a couple weeks of break because we are REALLY behind but the kids understand that 1/2 an hour of Math for the summer allows us to go slower all year long.

We're so behind it's not funny. DD still has 10 weeks of handwriting left and about 75 pages left of her math workbook for K. We've dropped everything else - it's like pulling teeth to get her to do her handwriting practice, even though I only ask 1 page a day.
So we'll be schooling most or all of the summer I think. Not what I wanted to do, but there is just too much left to do.

Happens to me every year! I think it is natural to want to move forward once we have some plans for the new year. The same old thing seems so boring when compared with new and exciting!

I am letting my younger two, 10 and 8, fizzle out now- we have been loving long read alouds and nature drawing on the bad weather days, and lots of outdoor plays in the good weather days.
My older two are still doing some work- pretty much the same as all year for the 16yo and lots of finishing up type work and social events for my 13yo daughter!!
Me, I am the most unfocused of all this time of year- I always joke with my husband that I am the main distractor in the mix

I actually plan for this. This is more of my problem than the kids. I want to garden! So, when I am writing my plans I schedule to drop one subject a week for the last 4-6 weeks. That leaves us doing about 3 subjects at the end. Another way to handle it is to schedule more independent work at the end so you can just check it off.
This does make for a heavier fall and winter but we have more energy then and the weather isn't as good. I start a little earlier too so I can add in a couple of subjects at a time to transition from summer to the regular school year.
