Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So I am going to start homeschooling kindergarten this fall. I am brand spankin new to all this ;)

This is what I have so far:

Saxon Math K teacher's manual and meeting book.
Saxon Math 1...just 'cause it came with the K as a pkg deal.
Saxon Phonics K teachers manual and tools.
I have a few easy readers, as my daughter is already doing simple reading.

I still need to get the manipulatives for math and the student workbook for phonics.

I need to order my catechism program.

What else do you think I need? What about for science, social studies, or art?

Thank you!

I use (and will be using it this year again!) Tell Me a Story by Hewitt. It has day to day activities and it covers books, science, art, all kinds of stuff and it is fun!

I like the Five in a Row things too.

But you know, really for kindergarten you could just go to the library and read books about things you are both interested in!

I also like the World Book typical course of study lists.

You can see it here.

I print them out and put them in my binder and they help me keep track of what things I want to remember to cover with my littles.

I head to library with this list and take off from there for science and social studies.

For our social studies and science for Kindergarten we're using the continents as our theme. We will spend 3-4 weeks on each continent reading a bit about the culture, some cultural tales and learning about the habitats and animals that live on the continents. So I'll be reading aloud and there will be a lot of illustrating. :) It gives us structure but a lot of freedom within that structure to add or subtract materials. My son doesn't write a lot yet, but as he gets stronger I can add some in.

I also have a break from the continents planned for whenever ice season arrives (usually mid-January) and we'll do some indoor experiments- sink/float, exploring magnets, melting ice, etc.
