Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My midwife recommended that I get some sort of support for my lower abdomen. She is slightly concerned that the baby is sitting right on top of my cervix, perhaps putting too much pressure on it. I had a little spotting this week end, and I think she is concerned that the pressure could trigger premature labor (I'm 28 weeks). Yesterday, I had a follow-up ultrasound and the specialist had to use his hands to push her butt off my cervix so he could look at it.

Anywho, we're going to run to Target in a few hours. I was originally thinking I would just get a maternity belt that straps below the belly, but then I also noticed that they had some very wide bands that covered the entire belly, above and below. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with either type and had any recommendations for one over the other. I don't want to do a belly bra.

Here's a link for Target:

I'm deciding between the Mini-cradle and the Tummy Bandeau, provided they will have them both in the store.

Thanks for any help.

Barbara:
You may want to clarify with your midwife what she thinks you should have. Here are the links I found that I think you are looking at:
Tummy Bandeau
Mini-cradle

IMHO, these types of belts will give very minimal support. And for me, at least, didn't do much past maybe baby #1 or 2.

These past threads will give you an idea of other much more substantial belts:

Belly Support thread

Pregnant Belly Support thread

You pay more money for many of these belts mentioned in these threads, but they are an absolute life saver. And, maybe more in line with what your midwife thinks may help get the pressure off.

I have been wearing the Mother-to-be Belt since about 4.5 months. It's helped a lot with the tummy pressure and back pain.

Soft-form Belt is very similar in support to the Mother-to-be.
There is also the Loving Comfort belt which is a bit less substantial, less bulky, and a bit less support.

My midwife initially suggested just using an ace bandage to wrap around my abdomen, so I'm not sure that she had anything special in mind. The maternal-fetal specialist who did my ultrasound didn't really seem that concerned about it.

I will check out those threads and suggestions, Suzanne. Target didn't have anything, but my mother-in-law, who works at a pharmacy, ordered me some supports to try out from Medela.

Thanks
